Yeah the vaccine for the ‘76 flu killed more people than the flu. And even outside of death “precautions” can do a lot of damage. We’ve got a weak economy already, if people start avoiding public places that’s not going to help any.
Then of course there’s the “silly” precautions. One of my favorites was the advice to get 6 months supply of prescription medicines, sounds good on the surface but try getting that much of your drugs approved by any insurance plan, I suppose those of us in border states could always drive down to Mexico...

There are TWO stories here.
First, the fact that there is a new strain of swine/avian/human flu is a true story. It includes a limited amount of confirmed deaths, a higher number of suspected deaths, and an unknown actual infection rate. It also appears to show a primary infection locus of Mexico.
Second, there is the pandemic hype, which includes the new Massachusetts “pandmic law” bill, the hysterical and specious 6% death rate, etc. The reports of pandemic are greatly exaggerated, to mangle a phrase.
Pandemics can be real. So far, I have seen no evidence this one is.
Wow! Way to bring out the Kool-Aid drinkers in full force!
Less than 300 confirmed cases worldwide, and folks here are screaming Captain Trips!
36,000 flu-related deaths annually in the U.S.
1 from this strain (and the victim had prior complications.)
Get a grip, people!
Wow dude, you just freaked me out, so what stage of denial are we all in? Crap, it’s true, we are all gonna die, well, at least I’m onto acceptance now ...

Agreed. As someone on another thread said, we won't know whether or not this is going to be a problem until it's over. It never hurts to have aspirin, bottled water and various staples on hand whether in the event of disease or natural catastrophes. Anyone who has lived in New England in the winter does this as a matter of course.
Never let a good crisis go to waste. If there is no crisis, create one.
I’ll put you down as one vote against emergency public health measures.
The death toll was only lowered at the pressure of the WHO, which has a vested interest in keeping numbers inaccurate.
“Mexico has lowered its confirmed death toll from swine flu from to seven, after World Health Organisation officials questioned the total.
However, Mexican Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova also raised the toll of “probable’’ deaths from the H1N1 virus from 152 to 159.”
You have to combine two reports, first the one on them approving the potential declaration of martial law, and second the one showing 2 confirmed cases in MA, but once you add those up that is indeed what the reports say. Based on two cases they have taken the steps necessary to declare martial law. And I want to know if you think that’s a good idea? Answer the question: do you agree that on TWO cases a state should be preparing for martial law?
Yes, we need to organize some patriotic flu parties, mariachi bands, tacos, big crowds in public places, best mask and death prizes. Let the good times roll
I'll ask a fourth time. Have they instituted martial law? Has it been declared?
How about just putting me down as being against Martial Law here? Is it okay to put you down as being for it?
Whenever you set the name “AD Council” look out, the propaganda is incoming in high tonnage!
In your final paragraph you get to the meat of the problem. There’s no evidence at all that this flu is a cytokine storm producer, yet people are waving 1918 around like it’s an established fact. And you admit that modern medicine would dramatically reduce the deaths from the 1918 flu, which there’s no evidence this flu is anywhere near that bad.
completely agree!
I think we need to understand that the drs and researchers are looking at history (1918, avian, etc) and seeing how the first wave hits in the spring/early summer, then goes almost dormant in the summer/early fall, and comes back harder in the late fall/winter.
Vaccines and medicine to treat or shorten the duration or seriousness of the flu can sometimes take 4-6 months to make. The whole point of raising the level to 5 was so the countries could notify vaccine makers to begin production immediately for availability for this fall.
Exactly. There have been some troubling posts by Freepers with connections that this could be worse than is reported.
Now, does that mean it is, no. I am skeptical of “my friend told me” reports.
But, to just accept the WHO’s word like gospel truth when they are the ones that pressured Mexico to lower its death toll.....come on.
They have very strong political reasons to minimize this!
I remeber it well. Intelligent people took note, ignored them and carried on.
Rarely are we treated to such condescending excrement as you just posted!
(actually, its not as rare as it should be)
