BERLIN (AP) — The United States and its allies must make sacrifices to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Wednesday in a high-profile appeal for Europe's help.

Holder spoke to the American Academy in Berlin, not long after telling reporters that the United States had approved the release of about 30 Guantanamo detainees.

"We must all make sacrifices and we must all be willing to make unpopular choices," said Holder.

"The United States is ready to do its part, and we hope that Europe will join us — not out of a sense of responsibility, but from a commitment to work with one of its oldest allies to confront one of the world's most pressing challenges," he said.

There are currently 241 inmates at the facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Holder spent the past several days privately asking European leaders in London, Prague and Berlin for help relocating detainees the United States wants to set free.

Holder Urges Allies to Take Share of Detainees ( Liberal Idiot Alert! )

Is anyone else sick and tired already that America has turned into a nation that begs and apologizes everyday???
You DO NOT ask them to take some of these people you tell them to and them send them there if you made the decision to close the appropriate place they should be held...

You might want to look up the word "sovereignty" sometime.

If Eric Holder wants to prosecute Bush & Cheney then he damn well better prosecute himeself and Janet Reno for the torture & murder of men, women and children in Waco!

Personally, I'd feel a hell of a lot better keeping them in GITMO.

Now I am all for deporting the 100K foreigners we have incarcerated in our prisons throughout America which is conservatively costing us about $2.5 BILLION a year. We certainly could use the cell space to incarcerate our own criminals!

Semper Fi,
Kelly

Hey Holder, offer ‘em some of my money...Better yet, just send them to London...They’ll be in Iraq or Afghanistan shortly after...And next time we can shoot ‘em instead of capture them...

Sounds nice because of the money you could save but would result in a disaster in long term. (would be a invitation to every crimminal in this world to commit crimes in america, because why worry if they only send you back IF they catch you commiting a crime?).

Barak Obama and Eric Holder are shining examples of 35 years of affirmative action and a liberal education.

Holy cr#p. The problem is that when we get attacked or when these economic plans lead to "program" after "program" , we're going to get the 'it's the fault of the conservatives" and "it's cause of George Bush's failed policies".

The lying and scapegoating by these children in control is mind boggling.

Of course, you MUST secure BOTH borders BEFORE HAND and do one hell of a better job checking passports upon entry.
