The government doing a project like this is simply wrong.

Well put.

I helped put such a scam to a quick death in my small town about 5 years ago.

Firm principles are very important things. And it's an important principle that government should NOT compete with private business. If it does, a fundamentally unfair and unbalanced playing field results. Everyone loses.

There are other high-speed Internet options available in the private sector, so there is ZERO justification for any government involvement here.

"But other countries have faster Internet service!"

SO WHAT!!??

I'll pay for my 8 Mbps cable and be quite happy with a smaller government, thank you.

Yep. Our neighbors have a bigger house. Should the government come in and make mine bigger? I've seen newer cars than mine. Should the government buy me a newer car? Where does it end?

Coveting thy neighbors goods has virtually destroyed this country. It's all because the government keeps dangling carrots in front of peoples eyes, and the people fall for it.
