Not an American child, a Mexican one fleeing socialized Mexican medicine only to die in an American hospital.

Geez! The hype on this non-existent "pandemic" continues. Now WHO says only 9 people dead, not 154. Yet the media keeps hyping this. A month from now this entire story will have disappeared.

Those are deaths that have been specifically confirmed by WHO. The Mexican govt says the 150 number. I'm not panicked, or even concerned, but I'm watching. We should all have a wait and see attitude, and you know what, we all know what the media is like, they breathlessly push stories to fill airtime, so we should all be intelligent enough to filter hype out of the facts. I have actually been grateful for some of the facts, because frankly, if it means that people are going to be more careful about personal hygiene, more careful with their kids' illnesses and exposure, then that's going to do nothing but help stem the spread of whatever potential this thing has.

I think you're right - a month from now this story will probably have disappeared, and Mexico seems to be getting hit harder due to lesser medical care and societal factors (ie third world elements), but in the meantime, it bears watching for the following reasons - it's not flu season, prior to this month the CDC had officially recorded only 12 deaths total from swine flu for the past three YEARS, it seems to be human transmitted (unusual), the mortality rate is higher than usual, it is a new strain for which they have no specific prior knowledge, and WHO has raised their alert level to 4, which they've never done before.

Panic? No way. Watch and wait? Absolutely.
