Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., said Tuesday he will support the nomination of an Indiana University law professor to head the Obama administrations internal law office.
He is the first Republican to publicly declare his backing for Dawn Johnsen, whose selection to head the Office of Legal Counsel has grown into a fight about abortion rights and counterterrorism practices.
Some Republicans have promised to try to block Johnsens confirmation either because of her support for abortion rights or because she criticized the legal justification used by the Bush administration for the torture of detainees.
Lugars support does not guarantee the Senate will confirm Johnsen. Sixty votes are needed to stave off a filibuster, and vote-counters say they are aware of close to 60 "yes" votes for Johnsen, but they are not declaring victory. One Democrat Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson has said he will vote against Johnsen.

The game is pretty straightforward, after all these years.
I guess Sphincter isn't one of them because he is such a dumdum.
But, in all fairness, they didn't have affirmative action and subjective (read: random or arbitrary) grading back when Arlen and Loogie were going to school.
Good thing for Obamalama that now the academicians can be brazen and just seal records.
And academic institutions can arbitrarily make someone an academic saint, literate or not.
They are showing their dealt hands, these international socialists.
Maybe a little too soon.
LUGAR has always sucked! I would vote for a Democrat just to remove this guy.
LUGAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED: NOW! Mike Pence, please..
Lugar is dead to the conservative cause.
Lugar is another oxygen wasting RINO on this planet.
Lugar is a senile RINO. I’ve voted against him in both the primaries and general elections the last two cycles. Problem is....no one will run against him except the Libertarians.
Lugar has always been a spineless wimp. We should nickname him “Smiling Wimpy” (remember Smilin’ Jack?)
I remember when he came into Congress and was one of the Republican’s great white hopes. Now he is just another piece of turncoat shit.
Maybe we could get down to about 28 to 30 honest conservatives in the Senate and Obama would have no excuse to blame the republicans fro anything. And may when 2010 rolls around the sheeple will have woken up.
