Specter: Who are the Voters to Judge ME? (admitted he was unwilling to face electorate)
Federal Review ^ | 4/28/09

Posted on 04/28/2009 11:06:51 AM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

Senator Arlen Specter (PA), who switched from the Republican to Democrat party on Tuesday (April 28), admitted that he did so due to an unwillingness to let voters decide his fate.

I am unwilling to have my twenty-nine year Senate record judged by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate,” he said in the statement.

“I don’t have to say anything to them. They’ve said it to me,” Specter said.

Specter, 79, has been a Republican for his five terms in the Senate. However, he had recently come under fire for supporting the Obama stimulus plan and was expected to face a tough primary challenge from Pat Toomey in 2010.

In addition, the state had been trending democratic in recent years, meaning that Specter could have also faced a difficult challenge in the general election if he stayed with his former party.

Why are we surprised?

Specter has almost never been right about anything in his 29 years in congress (therein lies much of the problem - 29 years) so why should we expect an honorable exit?

He has been a crypto-democrat, RINO, backbiting hypocrite all along.
If this doesn’t clearly point out why the Republican party needs to get back to it’s roots, what will?

Spector is the epitome of the truth that we are better off abandoning the practice of supporting RINOs just because they are nominally a number in the party head count.

Changing party for principle is one thing. Changing for cowardice and infantile spite is another.

Even Benedict Arnold could be attributed some respect for the fact that before he was a traitor, he had performed honorable service. Spector cannot even be given that faint praise.

its a SERVICE. not lifetime employment. of course we have the will of the people, like in NYC,over ruled by the city council doing away with term limits for the illustrious mayor that we apparently can’t do without.

For those in the know about the Pennsylvania GOP,

where does Tom Ridge fit in all this?

Specter’s single biggest contributor is the law firm “Blank Rome LLP, which from what I can tell, has, or has had, senior people working close with Ridge, before, during and after his DHS days and with DHS after Ridge???

Where is Ridge vs Toomey?

We just celebrated Ira Einhorn’s holiday last week. He was one of the original organizers (I think he was a community organizer, too) of the first earth day. I just love all the BS from the MSM about a fake holiday made up by a murderer.

If any Pub, of any strip: moderate, conserv,Christian, evangelical votes for Arlen, they are simply nuts. Pa. Pubs should go all out to elect Pat T. and go into all areas with a message of liberty, capitalism, profit, military strength, and strong education reform. Even in Philly and Pitt. Go to the minority communities too and preach the same message to show them that the welfare mentality is not going to aid their kids to rise to the top. See the new SAT scores nationally.

Goodbye to bad rubish! We don’t need folks like Specter in the Party. What an arrogant piece of offal!!! Although it does give the Dems more clout to push their agenda. I believe we’ll get that seat with Toomey.

“I am unwilling to have my twenty-nine year Senate record judged by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate,” he said in the statement.

A prima facie example of how the professional political class has grown totally distant from the people they are supposed to represent and serve. The Founders never intended for people to spend their entire professional lives in Congress. They become ossified and interested only in protecting their comfortable sinecures. As for Spector the hell with him. I'd rather have only twenty rock-ribbed conservative senators then 45 sniveling RINOs or Dems in GOP clothing. Don't let the door hit you in the ass Arlen!

With this type of arrofance, he should be in the Obama administration.

The Obama administration may be where he ends up as payment for a job well done in the event that he loses as the Democrat candidate for Senate. Perhaps something lifetime like being nominated to a federal court as a Judge would be to his liking.

Here’s a nightmare for you, maybe, he’ll be nominated to the supreme court.

That's not a nightmare, it's a dream come true.

Not to wish ill on the guy, but lets be honest, he's only got a few years left.

The nightmare scenario is some 40-year-old, affirmative action produced, Ivy League college professor, marxist know-it-all.

Think Cornell West on the Supreme Court for the next quarter century.

...maybe, he’ll be nominated to the supreme court.

Could be, but I don't think he's that important that Obama would need to repay him with something that would seriously p.o. a lot of his fellow Neo-Commies. Too many left-tards sitting on that federal bench for 8 long years, waiting for a Democrat president and waiting for an opening on the SC.

It’s no longer the Senate, it’s the American House of Lords. Very appropriate now that, after 233 years, we finally have a king of our very own.

Just today got a letter from Peg Luksik wanting donation to run against Arlen in Pa Rep primary.
Bad timing on her part.
Sending $ to Toomey.
