Steele: Specter left because he knew he'd lose
CNN ^ | April 28, 2009 | CNN

"Some in the Republican Party are happy about this. I am not," he said in a statement. "Let's be honest-Senator Specter didn't leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record. "Republicans look forward to beating Sen. Specter in 2010, assuming the Democrats don't do it first."

Steele said it well.

Was Steele pointing out Specter's "left-wing voting record" last week?

Chrissy Matthews still in the game? That would be a fun catfight.

Steele got this one right.

However, the bigger question is, why is Spector seeking another term at all? He's been in the Senate since 1980, and he's elderly and not in the best of health. I suppose some people never know when it's time to quit.

My guess is that the PA voters will retire him next year, either in the 'Rat primary or the general election.

Spector's biggest legacy in American history will be his invention of the "single bullet theory," which he concocted when working as counsel to the Warren Commission to "explain" how Oswald could have acted alone in the JFK assassination.

My guess is that he hass a lot to do with Toomey.

Specter will probably try to register and run as an independent and a Democrat, if possible.

His ego can’t handle defeat. He feals that Senate seat belongs not to the voters of PA, but to him personally and there are far too many elected legistors on both sides who would agree with him.

We need to flush careercriminal legislators out of office.

Will Specter still be alive in Nov 2010? He’ll be what, 99?

My guess is that Spector was the DA that got the ratbastid Ira Eienhorn out on $40k parole after Einhorn had murdered his GF and put her in box.....maybe Einhorn could do some campaigning for Spector now that he is back in the USSA!

Wonder if Specter will hire Meghan McCain as his chief of staff.

Fight RINOCANCER with a Check.

Mail a campaign contribution to Toomey and send a copy of the check to Arlen Spector, John McCain and Michael Steele.

The Republican Party just lost its leading authority on Scots law.

Now we can get a TRUE Conservative in the Senate.

We can run one...I'd love to see Toomey send Arlen to the showers permanently. I want him to lose by 10 points.

The problem is that Specter seems to reflect the values of a majority of PA voters. Santorum didn't, and got creamed running as an incumbent.

Toomey probably won't make it in the general just by being right on the issues...he better be a hell of a politician as well.

We may not like him, but it’s obvious that he’s interested in politics and what passes for public service.

He’s switched because he’ll pick up practically all the Demwit endorsements, Demwit voters, Demwit money, etc, and eliminate any possibility of a Demwit opponent.

Assuming of course that the deal goes through and the Demwits don’t turn coat on his ass.

Weren't there Dems out there angling to take the seat? If there were, do you think they'll all be discouraged now that they would have to take him on in a primary? Something tells me that he's not very popular in their circles, either.
