Then we should close California, Texas, Kansas and NY if protecting ourselves from the flu is the goal.
FWI, did you know we import more oil from Mexico than from Saudi Arabia? Are you prepared for the deaths that would occur if we cut off one of our main fuel suppliers?
You implied, in a very condescending way, that because only 0.00000026% of the US population has it, that this is much ado about nothing. You may be right, you may be wrong, only time will tell.
But NOT taking precautions is, in my opinion, foolish, at least. And in a potential pandemic situation, it is, again in my opinion, negligent - the same way I would think our “government” would be negligent to not close the borders to minimize the potential for spread.

So which is it? Precautions can (and should) be taken, or there is nothing anyone can do about it so we shouldn’t bother doing anything?

Who is panicking and flipping out? Who is advocating that anyone do that? I haven’t seen anyone on this site panic or flip out. All I’ve seen is people who are taking it with DUE seriousness, and people who are laughing it off as if it is nothing. Hopefully the latter group will be able to keep laughing and give a hearty “I told you it was nothing!” zinger in a few weeks. But if it does turn into a pandemic, we are in for a very ugly year or two.

Also the cancer center at Florida Hospital Orlando used to be the “Disney Cancer Center” as it was bankrolled in Walts name ... ORMC also has Disney ties ... if they have a sample of the virus George in the Electron Microscope lab at ORMC could shoot some pictures and confirm the variety pretty quick.
Well, surely the U.S. military is capable of defending our own border with Mexico. There would be other benefits to closing down the border, such as demonstrating our will and our ability to stop illegal immigration. The world would take note. I don’t suggest a permanent closure.
Obama of course is not about to take strong action to defend our border, so it’s all academic.
Why risk the chance of losing a family member? I strongly urge any that have made plans to visit a theme park to postpone awhile, besides after its over you may get a much better deal, I did right after 9/11, rented a small mansion fully stocked with pool and widescreens for $65 a day in Orlando.
As I’I’ve been ranting for days.... this is a trumped up crisis so Obama and company can either deflect attention from the economy and auto nationalization or grab the health care system as it struggles to cope with the pandemic. Fortunately for us, this thing is a flop and all of these public health officials (who support Nationalized medicine) are starting to look like fools (because they are fools). Nothing here, folks...

How many cases of other kinds of flu are being reported right now? Who has food poisoning and other food born illnesses right now. How many sick people are there in the USA right now? This Swine flu thing is nuts and people who panic are crazy.

Disney was great when Walt was alive but now they own ABC News, Hyperion Books (Meghan McCain) and basically make kiddie porn and have gay days at all their parks. They can drop dead. Boycott them and GE.

I won’t hazard a guess as to the answer to your question.
The only thing I have to say is that I wish they would stop calling this NEW VIRUS “Swine Flu”. There WILL be statistics at the CDC for “regular” swine flu, because it’s naturally occurring, although not any more harmful than “regular” human strains of flu virus.
North American Swine Flu has existed for AGES. Ask a vet or a pig farmer! LOL In fact, there was a poster here yesterday who said, “I’m not worried I had swine flu as a kid growing up on our farm”. From what I know about “old fashioned swine flu” it can’t be spread from human to human - only from contact with the infected animal, and it’s a respiratory flu virus.
I honestly do NOT understand why they haven’t come up with a better colloquial name for this new virus. Just calling it ‘swine flu’ doesn’t adequately describe this new mutated virus which contains AVIAN flu, AND human flu.
WHY they haven’t - well, I just don’t know. It could be an effort to DECREASE panic (like I said, farmers hearing “swine flu” would be like - yeah, what’s the big deal). OR, they could just not realize that calling it “swine flu” is going to cause more unintended consequences if this thing starts exponentially multiplying...
Sorry — the NAMING of this new flu has me more annoyed/worried than the fact that there is a new virus out there! It’s causing all sorts of misinformation and COULD cause a whole LOT of panic when more and more people realize this isn’t a “normal” virus, either...
[Some good names I’ve seen that would be better IMHO if we started using them would be: MEXIFLU, CHIMERA FLU (2 pigs,a bird & a human combined - my daughter came up with that one), & ManBirdPig Flu [great for fans of South Park! ;) sorry I can’t recall which FReeper posted it first that I ran across]
