His problem is that if he loses the primary to Tooney, then he's lost. He cannot thereafter run as an independent. Whereas if he switches to Democrat before the primary process he has a chance to retain his seat.

If he switches, I'm guessing part of the deal will be that the Dem leadership insures that he runs unopposed in the Dem primary, and that ACORN does what's needed to ensure he wins the election.

This was my read as well. Looks like Toomey has got him beat.

Obviously, his internals show Toomey kicking his Scottish Law loving behind.

You should have sees the attack ads Arlene was running here against Toomey last month. They reeked of desperation. As this move does.
