There was no excuse for the notification failure re this morning’s flight, but if the photo shoots are being done in conjunction with training flights, there may not be any real additional expense involved. Fighter jet pilots do need to practice escorting Air Force One, and Air Force One pilots do need to practice flying the plane while using all the special communications and security equipment on board, and interacting with escorting fighter jets. I rather doubt that the entire exercise was undertaken solely for the purpose of taking some pictures, though obviously the locations were chosen with pictures in mind. But alas, even if the original concept of the photo shoots was justifiable, the notification screw-up solidly nailed its coffin shut.

You make an excellent point. I really don’t have much sympathy for all the whining...other than there should have been a news article done first.

It's said they did notify the NYPD, and other local police agencies. BUT, they asked them not to tell the public. NYPD didn't even tell DA Mayor. I hope the gun grabbing POS had to change his drawyers.

Still an ill advised idea. Not telling the public makes a narrow kind of sense, wouldn't want "someone" with a Stinger or SA-14 to take a shot at the backup VC-25 while it was low and slow. But I think I'd have risked it to avoid the panic that ensued.

Heck set the F-16s up as Wild Weasels, and you might bag a Jihadie, and the missile would probably miss anyway, especially if it wasn't a Stinger.

I doubt they need practice flying at low altitudes of 1000 ft over the Manhattan skyline. This was inexcusable. If they wanted to practice, then they had a whole frikkin Atlantic ocean to do their "practice manuveurs". No, the frikking narcissistist 0booooombi wanted to get his jollies out of AF One doing fly by's on the Manhattan skyline. Only after the shiite hit the fan, did 0booooombi reverse course and have Louis Caldera throw himself on a sword and take one to cover for 0booooombi.

Plus why the secrecy of telling the few select local officials to keep quiet on this???

No, my gut feel tells me that 0booooombi was paying off some political favors to a few of his favorite political hacks OR to his ugly man-beast wife Michelle, by letting them take AF One for a joy ride buzzing over Manhattan!!! 0boooombi is lying POS who is so full of himself that he failed (as always) like an idiot to see the ramifications for such a fool hardy stunt.
