a 747 used as Air Force One

If the President is not on the plane, it is not Air Force One. There are two 747’ss outfitted to be used when the President wants to travel.

“If the President is not on the plane, it is not Air Force One.”

For all intents and purposes the plane is called “Air Force One”, although the name is drawn from the unclassified call sign. It is the common name used to refer to the aircraft itself even though it is not the technical nomenclature “VC-25.” F-15s are Eagles, A-10s are Worthogs, E-8s are Joint STARS, E-3s are AWACS, RC-135s can be Rivit Joint, etc.
