Duplicate post, but bless her heart for making this decision.
On the one hand, I say “Fantasitc!”
But on the other, it is too bad Mary Ann Glendon didn’t choose to appear, accept the Laetare award, and then say her piece to jenkins and obama, walk up to jenkins and hand him back the award, then walk off the podium and right out the exit.
Contrary to what you say, Ms. Glendon should not “accept the Laetare award, and then say her piece to jenkins and obama, walk up to jenkins and hand him back the award, then walk off the podium and right out the exit.”
As she says in her letter, a commencement is supposed to be a joyous occasion for graduates, not a place for serious debate about a subject as serious and consequential as abortion.
If Obama were half the person Glendon is, Obama would withdraw as a commencement speaker out of respect for the views of many Catholics.
Mary Ann Glendon is a class act. She actually earned her reward.
Obama has done NOTHING to earn an honorary law degree. Nothing. Zero. Nada. Not even if you ignore his baby-killing habits.
Repeating the reply I made on another thread - that does no good in advancing the goal of having Notre Dame withdraw the award to Obama.
As of yesterday, I thought there was zero chance that would do this. Today, I’m thinking there is some, slight chance.
