WASHINGTON (AP) — A leading Democratic senator said Sunday independent investigators should determine whether Bush administration officials ought to face charges over the harsh interrogation techniques used against suspected terrorists.

The White House had hoped to put the matter behind it by letting the attorney general make that call.

Other liberal Democratic lawmakers appearing on the Sunday news shows joined Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., in pressuring the Obama administration to pursue investigations into the interrogations policies. But they stopped short of demanding charges against the Bush-era lawyers and other officials who devised the policies that critics have denounced as torture.

Conservative Republican senators characterized the Democratic effort as counterproductive and politically motivated at the least and, at worst, damaging to national security.

Is that like voting present?

Dems should go for it. Repubs should say they will not attend and filibuster anything in the House and Senate. The GOP better learn they are deling with thugs.

When is Leahy going to be investigated to determine if he has connections with the Islamofascists?

This is a little charade. Obama plays good guy and the libs play bad guy while keeping it in the news. The GOP needs to call their bluff.

Good Sunday to you AV

The left wing lunatics headed by Obama continue to give aid and comfort to the enemy. The release of the CIA interrogation memos is an impeachable offense for Obama and there is no doubt about it.

Who does the AG work for? The audacity of lying in this White House is something that has not been seen ever in the history of our Republic, nothing can even come close to it.

Now that it has gotten this far, I say bring it on. In fact the GOP could start their own independent enquiry and invite Pelosi to testify..along with the people who gave the briefing. Let’s find out the real “truth”.
I think a majority of the american people would have been happy to tip the water board to find out about future attacks. They are just stiring the pot to distract from other problems.

Since democrats sitting on those committees signed off on what the administration asked for I say investigate away.

Levin is a radical.

And yet Captain Queeg has no problem working with the bastard on legislation to revamp DoD spending.

Isn’t this a case of Nero fiddling while Rome burns?

Investigating legally vetted methods of interrogation shouldn’t even be under consideration. While Obama is pretending that all this is going on despite his desires, our enemies are not being lazy. Indeed, this whole charade—as well as most of the other stuff coming out of this administration—is sending the signal loud and clear that we’re weak.

When is Ruth Bader Ginsburg going to raked over the coals for supporting sucking brains out of half born infant?

Can anyone really take a partial birth abortion advocate seriously when they want to discuss the evils of scaring a mass murderer in an attempt to save thousands of lives?

Republicans in congress need to play HARDBALL. How about side by side videos showing each process?

Yea like it would be honest from Sen. Karl (Lenin) Levin, D-Mich and Leaky Lehey.

Queeg is a radical as well only he attempts to hide it with his big mouth saying one thing and his nasty self doing the opposite.

McCain is a walking talking bipartisan machine all rolled into one: talking Amerian while acting red with his good pinko friends across the asile, Levin and Kennedy. I hope we finally beat him this election.
