Flu in the jet age.
bttt
As of yesterday, all schools in Mexico City were closed, and public gatherings canceled. But international air travel continued as usual, with only some questioning at airports about the health status of travelers. And, of course, our southern border remains wide open.
If this is a serious flu, those in charge have certainly done nothing to prevent it from becoming a widespread, international problem.
Mexico is tagged as a dagerous place to be right now. Why would anyone take school children from New Zealand to Mexico???? This is irresponsible risk behavior that can only be caused and explained by political correctness.
Yup. There is no way to contain this or any other disease. Not in todays globe-trotting world.
Maybe tin foil hat time, maybe not.
They were there three weeks, so they went there before there was any inkling of a flu outbreak.
My brother and his three young children just returned from Cancun about five days ago. I’m worried about his four year old son who came down with a fever the day after he came home. He was taken to the doctor and diagnosed with strep throat. He seems to be doing better but it still worries me.
Probably nothing to worry about, and it's already been five days. The severe cases in Mexico have been in younger to middle aged adults, not in the very young and elderly that normally suffer most from the flu. And all US cases so far have been very mild.
It just seems they should take a few more precautions until they've nailed down whether the illnesses outside Mexico are the same serious strain.
You are right. But Texans and the State Department have advertized widely that Mexico is a risky place to be due to an increase of crime and kidnappings - even in resort areas. You have to be nuts to let your children go there.
