Pakistans military can stop Taliban who are closing in on the capital, and the nations nuclear weapons are safe, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani told the National Assembly on Friday. Gilani spoke for the first time about the safety of the countrys nuclear weapons since the recent surge of the Taliban, while addressing parliamentarians. If anybody challenges the writ of the government ... we will react, said Gilani. On Friday, the president also assured separate gatherings in Sialkot district that Pakistans nuclear assets were safe. Gilani said that troops could handle the situation.

Pakistans military can stop Taliban who are closing in on the capital, ...
I wonder if PM Gilani understands how ineffectual that statement sounds.

Sadly you are right. If the Taliban terrorists control Pakistan nuclear weapons then we are going to face a disaster that we cannot even imagine in our worst nightmares.

Time to go in and take out all of Pakistans nukes, before the talibums go in and start taking out our troops with NukeCarBombs in the Green Zone.

If the Taliban terrorists control Pakistan nuclear weapons then we are going to face a disaster that we cannot even imagine in our worst nightmares. All politics being local, I think that the first and only casualty of Pakistan's collapse will be India.
I say 'first' because Pakistanis are obsessed with Kashmir. Fanatics don't need long range missiles to strike at India. Just a few fighters or short range missiles will do. Easy stuff, technologically speaking, and the first and second order effects of a Pakistani first strike will make India a basket case of death and suffering.
I say 'only' because India's retaliatory strike will make Pakistan a graveyard.

I have read in the past, that we will be the ones doing something to safeguard them.

Pakistan's military hasn't stopped the Taliban anywhere else, why would anyone believe they're going to start as the Taliban move toward the capital?

Exactly. The Pakistani ISI created the Taliban and there are elements within the armed forces that seems to really embrace their message and tactics. Its quite possible the Army can read the tea leaves and is acting accordingly. Thanks to the madrassas, most of Pakistan has been radicalized anyway.
