This thought crossed my mind as well, but I have no experience with what level of greatly reduced force (with no barrel to allow pressure to build) a .22lr would generate, and I was wondering about larger cartridges. Guess it would depend on the seating depth and type of powder used.
I would think with larger cartridges, such as a .30-06 it would be pretty much the same, just a flash-pop, and if you got hit by the slug or the brass it would likely be little more than an annoyance.
(But I’m not going to try it!)
