WASHINGTON, April 24 (Reuters) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday it was too late to contain the swine flu outbreak in the United States.
CDC acting director Dr. Richard Besser told reporters in a telephone briefing it was likely too late to try to contain the outbreak, by vaccinating, treating or isolating people.
"There are things that we see that suggest that containment is not very likely," he said.
He said the U.S. cases and Mexican cases are likely the same virus. "So far the genetic elements that we have looked at are the same." But Besser said it was unclear why the virus was causing so many deaths in deaths in Mexico and such mild disease in the United States.

giving a new meaning to "when pigs fly"
A family is quarantined, a school is closed.
When the heck is the border going to be sealed?
We have been “rectally invaded”.
I’ll just say that 0bama’s supporters have rectally invaded themselves with their own heads.
Twenty-two students from Auckland’s Rangitoto College, may have been infected with the Swine Flu, which the World Health Organisation warn could start a global epidemic.
The students, believed to be senior students, arrived back to New Zealand via Los Angeles on Saturday, after a language trip to Mexico.
Up to six have been showing flu like symptoms, but the test results won’t be confirmed until Monday. They are being quarantined at their homes.
PHOENIX - US Airways has issued a travel advisory on their Web site because of the swine flu outbreak.
They announced that they have eased up on ticketing policies if anyone wants to change their travel plans.
US Airways says they will waive the standard change fee, advance reservation and ticketing requirements for customers with travel to, from or through Mexico City on the dates of April 24th through April 30th.
Thanks for pointing that out.
I didn't realize that it was the CDC that made that decision.
I’ve been pretty busy.... lol
I've had it about 3 times so far...or once and didn't get over it til recently.
My aunt ended up in ICU, where she's been for the last two months. They did a trach on her and put her on a respirator. She still isn't well.
Some people have coughed for 2 months after recovering from it. The last time I had it, I had the cough and the coughs were some of the deepest and strongest I've ever had. I told my hubby jokingly that they started at the toes and worked their way up.
That sounds perfect.
It sounds just great. I wonder when we will start to see people wearing masks in so called flu-free areas.
