Is it possible that as brilliant as our Founding Fathers were, perchance they gave us a little too much credit? Notwithstanding their sagacity, the Founders likely never envisaged a scenario in which the American people would elect a Commander in Chief who is a national security risk.

And what? Does he apply before or after he wins the office?
It doesn’t work that way. The president, as commander-in-chief of the Army and the Navy is the “decider” of who does and does not rate a security clearance. There is no higher authority, so he/she doesn’t need one. That system worked relatively well until 1/20/2009.
Let the people decide.
What Constitution?
I have been bashed here as a “birther” by some. The whole natural born citizen and birth certificate thing is not going away. We have to keep pushing it by getting atop attorney to take it to SCOTUS with at least 100,000 active duty military as plaintiffs listed as John and Jane Doe.
SF 86 ?
And suddenly it will become impossible for conservatives to get security clearances. Think it through.
By the way, what was the procedure for obtaining a security clearance during the days of the founding fathers? Or is this just rather poor writing?
He’ll just text them to the saudi king on his blackberry.

I think they would have been stunned to see that the 16th amendment (income tax) wasn’t passed for over a century.
I think that is a great idea.
In order to be eligible to assume the Presidency, a candidate should first have to pass a security clearance.
We need to start a movement to get that put in place.
It would also serve as a means to bring public awareness to the fact that 0bama would not pass a security clearance.
That would be nice. This is insane.
Flash; Stand by for two part message in the code of the day.
Not to worry, that Holder fella will probably publish them soon. Besides, how do you know the 1 hasn’t already given them to China.
I'll bet he'd have a real interesting one of those - if he filled it out honestly.
Yeah, right.
As others have pointed out, you haven’t remotely thought this through. It’s a SPECTACULARLY horrible idea.
Who is in charge of determining whether the President gets a security clearance?
Currently it’s an assortment of faceless bureaucrats that are adjudicating clearances. That law would immediately make whoever it is the most important person in the country.
It sounds superficially great now, but what happens when all said bureaucrats, after 8 years of a Democratic administration, now are running the clearance investigation on a Republican President-Elect?
The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and every voter is (or should be) aware of that. To be C-in-C you pretty much need clearance to everything.
When he won the election the people of the US gave him his clearances. That’s the simple reality.
And, btw, you haven’t the foggiest idea whether Barack Obama would get a security clearance or not. It’s very complex (moreso the higher the clearance.)
Thats right to get cleared he needs a valid BC. No copies allowed.
0bama will find a way around it. For you and me.
I suppose that is a good point, since 0bama has filpped America’s alliances 180°, someone who consorts with Brits or Israelis, owns a firearm, has ever been a registered Republican, or has ever traded stock might be denied security clearance, while communists, man-made disasterists, and friends of Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro would pass.
That "One bad Apple" analogy.
Although I will give him some, very minute, minuscule even, credit, in that I think a whole truckload of reality hit him when he started getting full security briefings. It's slowed "some" things down. Not a lot, but some.
