Pirate Bay lawyer demands retrial, saying judge was biased in file-sharing case
STOCKHOLM (AP) -- A defense lawyer in the Pirate Bay file-sharing case said Thursday he will demand a retrial after the judge admitted he was a member of copyright protection organizations.
A Stockholm court last week convicted four men behind the notorious Web site of helping others commit copyright violations and gave them one-year prison sentences.
They also were ordered to pay damages of 30 million kronor ($3.6 million) to entertainment companies, including Warner Bros., Sony Music Entertainment, EMI and Columbia Pictures.
Peter Althin, who represented Pirate Bay spokesman Peter Sunde in the case, said he would request a retrial after Judge Tomas Norstrom confirmed Swedish Radio reports that he was a member of two Swedish copyright groups....

I have never used TPB either but how do you explain people “stealing’ the latest episode of South Park when it’s shown on South Park.com and other sites such as Hulu? I just downloaded it. Trey Parker and Stone stated they don’t “give a rat’s ass” if they DL it or not.

Being that they own it and I support property rights I rather think this is a good setup.
You are taking what isn’t yours against the express wishes of the property owner are you not?

TPB and related sites aren’t about fair use - they are about getting things for free. If those who produce what you are taking aren’t paid for their work do you think they will keep making it?

Besides, Audio files have special properties of use that lend themselves to (near) simultaneous use of a single copy. It's not the same as using a car, for instance.

When it comes to audio files of a performance subject to copyright, one doesn't "own" them, one has a license for a copy typically.
Someone owns them. If you distribute copies that the owner(s) didn’t authorize then you are breaking the law.
Dude, you are assuming all sorts of things not in evidence. I’d suggest that you tend to your knitting wrt me and actually investigate the nuances of the various forms of so-called IP and be able to distinguish same, in detail, from real property.

What country are they copyrighted in? Is the copyright timed out? It’s never simple.
