One wonders what made him so good he was THE choice for the position.

An obvious theory would be the "useful idiot" routine..... I am not assuming that, just throwing it out ther for discussion.

The outcome is the same, but we do it a little differently here in Chicago. If it was a Chicago-cide he would in the trunk of a car at the airport.

I met a mother and two young children at a family Thanksgiving dinner a few years back — friends of my brother’s ex-wife. The father had been running some sort of Medicare reimbursement scam and got caught. Blew his brains out in the basement of the family home. Five year old son found him. The little boy was 8 when I met him, and alarmingly grown up, acting like the watchful protective father over his 5 year old sister, while mommy was busy chatting with friends, instead of running around playing himself, like a normal 8 year old boy at a party would. Scary thing was, the family was still living in luxury on the father’s ill-gotten gains — apparently the government decided that it was enough that they shut down the scam and the perp killed himself, and didn’t go after the large sums of money that the family had already socked away. It really seemed like the mother hadn’t learned the lesson she needed to learn.

No, the guy probably puts in 14-16 hours a day and his schedule would be well known.

People, come on. Somebody broke into his house, grabbed him out of his bed, dragged him down to the basement, and the wife never woke up. Get a grip.

Oh, most unlikely he was murdered at home, I grant you. But home is a good place for an assassin to take hostages and induce the target to cooperate in putting himself into a suicidal situation.

And you have to admit, all those years at FM don't seem likely to add up to a sudden attack of conscience.

Actaully, the Cubs may do it. I can’t stand them. With the line up they have and the pitching [even their pitchers can hit] they should score a lot of runs. If the bullpen holds up they may be there. Eventually it is bound to happen. I would dread listening to the fans if it happens.

I feel terrible for his family.

I do too. I don't think all of this mindless speculation will help matters either.

Actually, in addition to news stories, there was at least one suicide like that in a wealthy section of town here. Same thing, husband was involved in some big business fraud. That’s why I say this man might have killed himself because of fear of a scandal breaking, or he could have been under pressure to hide other people’s wrongdoing.

IMHO the government is corrupt and rotten to the core.

See? I was right. Two gunshot wounds to the back of the head and then he hung himself. Wanted to make sure he got the job done.
