Senator McConnell Blasts Plan to Close Guantanamo

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico—President Barack Obama came under fire Tuesday for including $80 million to close Guantanamo in a massive funding request to fight America's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The $83.4 billion request to Congress was submitted on April 9, when lawmakers were on break over the Easter holidays. Tucked into the 99-page bill were a few paragraphs about Guantanamo—including a request for funds for foreign countries that accept prisoners. U.S. efforts to have other countries take in detainees have largely been a flop—stoking fears the men will end up in America.

"The administration needs to tell the American people what it plans to do with these men if they close Guantanamo," U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor Tuesday. He pointed out that two years ago the Senate voted 94-3 against sending detainees to the U.S.

McConnell opposes closing Guantanamo.

Okay, works fine off the contracostatimes.com

Same article different newspaper website

So, it’s the Orange County Register website where the problem lies.

Okay, these journalists need to get it together. Is the “occupant” talking about closing the whole naval base or just the prison?

I dunno, skink, one thing you can't fault McConnel for is his political timing. He was hiding in the tall grass until he smelled the fear from the Democrats. Maybe it's taken him this long to realize we're in deep sh#t.

Obama is engendering a primal fear in a lot of citizens, myself included. Humans don't forget a deep fear, however. It's not something easily let go of and living with it cultivates a type of controlled anger because we can't escape him. We know we have to oppose him and to not do so will have dire consequences. Opposing Obama is an easy decision and there's a type of peace that goes with it.

Yeah, I know, McConnel's no Michelle Bachmann, but we could have worse. He's a little slippery but I think he truly is conservative. You had to be proud when he fought for a trigger for offshore drilling. He is pro-life and pro Second Amendment.

The DemocRATS keep screaming that we have to close the prison, but each and every one interviewed also says they have no idea what to do with them after that.

These idiots are hopeless.
