(CBS) CBS11 in Dallas/Fort Worth has the story of a chronically obese woman's desperate plea for help.
Karen Ferguson is leave her trailer home in northwest Tarrant County, Texas. The last thing she wanted is attention, but she is reaching out for help.
"I would never bring myself down to go on the news looking like this," Ferguson said. "I would wish it'd be for a cure or that I'm doing good or something. But not like this. It's hard on the family."
Ferguson estimates she weighs 700 pounds. She said it's because of her diabetes. Several years ago, at around 300 pounds, she had open heart surgery.
Ferguson needs people to help her get to a portable toilet, which is only two steps from her chair. Ferguson said she's been turned down by nursing homes who claim problems with Medicare. Now she fears she'll lie here, unable to move, her bed sores festering and her body deteriorating.
"That's the worst thing I could ever imagine," Ferguson said. "Because why would it need to be that way? If there's not a cure, you know what I'm saying, don't just let someone lay there and die. So I've asked them about rehabilitation. But there's too many red tapes. But when it boils down to it, it wasn't red tape it was my size."
That’s sad. Maybe she should have asked at 300, or even 250.
Wouldn’t the diabetes be a result of the obesity? Not the other way around?
Okay, I’m going to be the mean b***h. There is a cure. The cure is called Push-Away. Push away from the table!
I am not a thin woman myself.
If this lady’s family loved her, they would only bring chicken and veggies into that house. If she can’t walk two steps to the toilet, she cannot make meals.
>>The cure is called Push-Away. Push away from the table!<<
She can’t. She can’t move. Her family is doing this. They are to blame. She has an eating disorder and they are giving in.
I would ask if she has done anything to help herself? Has she dieted correctly, listened to medical advice? Or has she felt bad for herself? It says several years ago she was 300 pounds so she couldn’t have been taking very good care of herself in the first place. I’m not saying I don’t have a heart, but with all the people looking for hand outs these days, I think everyone needs to be questioned.
It’s sad but not everyone with diabetes lets themselves get to 700 pounds. Two to one she cheats on the diet a doctor gave her and eats sweets and starches she should not be eating.
She is probably looking for sympathy so she gets money for a stomach stapling operation.
Is it evil of me to say these sort of people shouldn’t exist? They’re an offense to Darwin AND God.
Seeing that she can’t move, who is bringing her all the food?? Bring salads and fruit. I don’t have much sympathy for someone who grazes their way into this condition, or their enablers.
Somebody is killing her with food and should be charged!
She should have started the push-aways a couple of hundred pounds ago. 300 pounds just doesn’t creep up on a person. She didn’t wake up 500 pounds overweight.
I agree.
Yeah, that is is pretty evil of you, actually. Because someone is unattractive to you, she should die. I think you’ve got the wrong person sitting in the God place.

She could feed a lot of pit bulls.
Simply moving to a high protein low carb diet would do wonders for this woman.
I also blame whoever is bringing her the food...they are killing her slowly
