A Boston University medical student was arrested Monday in the shooting death in a hotel of a masseuse and the robbery of another woman who both advertised their services on Craigslist.
Phil Markoff, 22, was arrested during a traffic stop Monday afternoon on Interstate 95 in Walpole, south of Boston, Police Commissioner Ed Davis said at a news conference to announce the arrest. He is also connected to an assault on a Las Vegas exotic dancer in Rhode Island last week.
Markoff's arrest came days after his image was shown on surveillance video at the hotels. Davis said that authorities had him under observation for days before making the arrest.
Authorities said Markoff was originally from upstate New York and now lives in Quincy, just south of Boston. A Facebook profile matching Markoff's identity, including his photograph, lists him as a 2007 graduate of State University of New York-Albany and in the 2011 class at BU. CBS' News Sammy Rose Saltzman and Ryan Corsaro report that friends and acquaintances contacted for the story describe Markoff as "likeable," "preppy," and "conservative." He and his fiancé, Megan McAllister, had a website detailing plans for their wedding that was planned for August in Long Branch, N.J.

Yeah...putting it that way, it begins to make sense. Thanks for the info. With that said, he STILL may be a sociopathic poofter. We’ll see...
Wow. The boy next door, eh?
I think one girl had $800 on her when he robbed her.
Markoff was known to be a big gambler and investigators are probing whether money concerns tied to his gambling may have triggered the alleged violence spree, the sources said.
Markoff was traveling south on I-95 with a suitcase when he was arrested by authorities on murder charges yesterday. A source said he may have been on his way to a Connecticut casino when he was arrested.
Markoff, who is engaged, and his fiancee listed Foxwoods Resort Casino as one of their preferred honeymoon destinations on a wedding Website. The posting has since been taken down.

Markoff, 22, of Quincy, accused of trolling the darkest, dirtiest corners of Craiglist for erotic rendezvous while packing a handgun, was to wed an all-American blonde in a sunset beach service near McLoones Pier House in Long Branch, N.J., followed by a honeymoon in Tahiti, according to the couples too-perfect wedding planner Web site.
They had registered for a quilt in espresso from Pottery Barn and monogrammed martini glasses from Williams-Sonoma for their pink dream kitchen.
But yesterday, Markoff, believed to be the son of a Syracuse, N.Y., dentist and a top-level educator, found himself charged with murder and out of a future.
Upon learning of the charges earlier this evening, officials at the school immediately suspended him, BU spokeswoman Gina Digravio said.
A dentist with the same last name and believed to be related said last night he didnt know what was going in Boston or that anyone had been arrested. He later could not be reached for comment. The mother of the bride-to-bes maid of honor was frantic last night, telling the Herald, Shes been with him for years! We just finished the invitations to the shower! My daughter is hysterical.
If they think the motives are just robbery, then I wonder what happened that made him shoot the one girl?

LOL. Typical “socialite” type response. Never mind he is in jail for killing a woman. “What are we going to do about the BRIDAL shower? We can’t get our deposits back!”
I feel the same way.
Because she fought back when he tried to handcuff her.
Not blaming the fiance, but one wonders how Markoff explained his frequent absences away from home.

ABC NEWS: Markoff Won $5,300 At Foxwoods 2 Days After Boston Murder

Phillip Markoff, the accused Craigslist killer, drove to Foxwoods Casino two days after he allegedly killed Julissa Brisman at the Boston Marriott Copley and gambled all night until he left with $5300 in winnings, ABC News has learned. He also gambled at the Connecticut casino two days after he attacked another escort at the Westin Hotel in Boston, stealing $800 out of her wallet before he bound her, duct-taped her mouth shut and then used plastic flexi-cuffs to tie her handcuffed wrists to a doorknob, a source told ABC News.
Markoff opened an account at the casino in 2008, but his visits to the casino increased in March and April, visits that led the Cheryl, New York native to apply for a credit line in early April.
He went to Foxwoods frequently, including visits on April second, twelfth, and sixteenth, the source told ABC News. On the sixteenth he left with $5300 in winnings.

47. His poor deluded fiancee. I knew him very well in med school. Though I am shocked to discover that I know the suspect, I must say that I am not at all surprised. He was a very nice man, but it was clear to me and others I knew that he was disturbed and a bit “off.”

site pulled down but I did see some of the messages last nite
“The evidence that we have suggests that Julissa put up a pretty tough struggle and it’s in the context of that struggle that she lost her life,” Conley said.
Markoff, who appeared in court wearing a blue-and-white-striped shirt, khaki pants, and tasseled loafers, did not speak, but blinked and breathed rapidly as he watched the proceedings.
Conley said police had tracked Markoff through his contacts via e-mail with Brisman, noting that Markoff had opened up a new e-mail account the day before he allegedly killed her. Police put Markoff’s home under surveillance, then saw Markoff, who matched the description of the killer, and “the case just begins to build from that,” Conley said.

I was glad that Bret Easton Ellis, the guy who wrote American Psycho, faded into obscurity.
Something tells me he'll be back to comment on this.
It's Patrick Bateman (the murderous yuppie played by Christian Bale in the film) all over again.

Yes I knew Philip. I went to gradseschool with him as well as highschool. He’s from my hometown of Sherrill, NY. We were never friends. And although he both went to a small school, he never truly knew me personally. I had 9th grade spanish with him, and sat directly next to him. He would go off on these intense, verbally abusive tirades towards me and I never understood why, because he didn’t even know me and I never once did anything to him. He would call me dumb and worthless and have this arrogance to him that he was better and superior because of his intelligence. He wasn’t well liked in school, because he was jerky and pompous. He was also kind of dorky and awkward, but the main reason why people didn’t like him is because he was so nasty to people. Since I was a female, and he would go off on unwaranted verbally abusive tirades towards me, I saw him as being very mysognistic. You could tell he had a lot of deep-seeded hatred inside of him. From my personal expiriences with him, he was never friendly or nice. I also went to the same college as him, University at Albany, and steered very clear of him if I ever saw him. He always creeped me out and I can’t think of one redeemable quality about him. This whole “nice guy persona” people are saying about him is a total act on his part. He really suckered people into thinking he is something he is not. I knew him before any of these people coming out talking about him,. He is NOT a nice person and as disturbing as this case is, it does not surprise me.

His Dad was my dentist up in Syracuse...he would continually mumble the words “Is it Safe” under his breath while he worked on you...everyone thought it was a bit weird....but he did a good job so we kept going back.

OMG!...Not invitations to the shower?
Oh the humanity!
I saw them too, most of them were pretty nasty.
Well, we know what Howie’s next column will be about.
