BASRAH Iraqi Air Force (IqAF) personnel assigned to Basrah Air Base now have a new compound to call home thanks to a $1.9 million project overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Gulf Region Division (GRD).
If I use all the words, they wont be enough to express my great thanks to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their work helping us build the Iraqi Air Forces capacity not only in Basrah province, but in the whole country, said Staff Gen. Anwer Hamd Ameen, commander of the IqAF, during his April 14 visit to the Air Forces new compound in here. You ensured that a quality facility was provided.
IqAF Staff Maj. Gen. Hamed al-Maliki, Basrah Air Base commander, was also pleased. There is a huge difference between the old facility where our Airmen were housed and the new compound, he said. As the Iraqi Air Force gets bigger, this expansion is vital for the 450 additional Airmen who will be reporting for duty here, he noted.
Lt. Col. Humberto Ramirez, the officer in charge at USACEs Basrah Area Office, explained that construction took about six months to complete. The project includes new housing units with air conditioners, a dining facility, and two new 550 kilovolt generators.
The Iraqi contractor doing the work had more than 50 local Iraqis on his crew and is also responsible for training staff on maintaining the new equipment.
If I use all the words, they wont be enough to express my great thanks to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their work...”
Words don’t matter much, General; actions do. Use it wisely.
