Obama Ignores Tea Parties at His Peril, by Liz Peek
Wall Street Weekly | 04/17/2009 12:25 pm

Editor’s Note: Liz Peek is a financial columnist and the author of wOw’s SHEconomics.

More than 250,000 feisty Americans took to the streets this week to protest high taxes and rising government spending. Curiously, the media — and the White House — treated this outpouring of anger as insignificant. Though we are supposed to take seriously Barney Frank’s outrage over AIG bonuses, apparently ordinary taxpayers are motivated by some “special interests.” Yes they are — their own interests!

Americans are not stupid. They fear the huge deficits stemming from the budget proposed by President Obama, and they know that someone is going to have to pay for them. Moreover, they recognize that in all likelihood the numbers will only get worse. Indeed, only weeks after the budget was released, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that total outlays would exceed Obama’s projections by $2.3 trillion between 2010 and 2019. And that was before Congress axed some provisions that would have raised revenues.

How big are these future deficits? According to the CBO, the cumulative deficit under the president’s proposals would total $9.3 trillion in that time period. Boiling this down – really, who can deal with trillions? – the CBO reports, “Debt held by the public would rise, from 41% of GDP in 2008 to 57% in 2009 and then to 82% of GDP by 2019.” Eighty-two percent! According to a Rasmussen poll out today, 85% of Americans are worried about rising inflation – are we surprised?

Gotta follow up with action, every one of us.

Get bumper stickers “Obama: Destroying Capitalism One Day at a Time.”

“Cut Frivolous Spending, NOT the US Military”

Dump (your local liberal Democrat congressman)

Put up yard signs NOW ... don’t wait until this fall. Put them on roadsides, not just in yards.

At key intersections.

“Proud to be an American capitalist: Ashamed of Obama”

“Proud to be a Christian nation: Ashamed of Obama”

I’ve done it in my town, and it was so effective the local liberal newspaper did stories about the “mystery” yard signs popping up all over.

Motorists will begin to get on board once they see that the majority of people think ObamACORN is immoral and destructive.

It’s not a lot of work if each and every person who attended a tea party just does a little bit.

There has to be millions and millions(not thousands) before they are given credibility by the MSM.

Jenny Granholm has gotten her talking points. Now she says the tea parties weren’t a genuine uprising. She has the whole heavily funded right wing groups line down pat.

Where we line up for that heavy right wing funding?

It REALLY pi$$es me off that the people writing these articles could not be bothered to total up the number of people who attended based on first-hand reports from the trenches. The total number exceeds 3/4 MILLION who directly participated and, given the constant comings and goings of people who didn’t stay for their entire event, I’d bet total participation easily exceeded 1 million.

I know Liz is on our side in this, but she should get her stats correct.

This was a true grass roots million person event put together by the loosest possible federation of local groups. It was an astounding event for the U.S., the likes of which have not been seen before. And it was totally ignored by the MSM which reported “hundreds” of people at their local city parties.

Way too many messages. It has to be one clear message or it will be a muddled mess and go nowhere.

I suggest focus on the excessive spending/debt. Drop the other messages (there are other places for them).

Figures are wrong, by last count it was closer to 650,000 people showed up, covering all 50 states and about 750 tea parties total.

I submit if we start a third party it should be named "The Tea Party". Just sayin'.

Only the ignorant like Charles Barkley who hold that view are idiots. I suspect with Mr. Barkley is thinking his bread is buttered on Obama’s side. Go ahead Mr. Barkley. You will find out soon enough egomaniacs or dictators as Mr. Obama likes to fancy himself as have no friends. You will probably end up in his trash heap after usability has past it's expiration date.

Call it The Che Guevara Effect.

Or The Fidel Castro Effect. They both had close friends killed when they outlived their usefulness.

We are now up to 647 events, in EVERY state, and can document no less than 693,000 and as many as 801,000 patriots took part protesting Washington D.C.’s tax and spend scheme.
