Obama names chief tech officer

President Barack Obama on Saturday chose two Indian-Americans to help to streamline the federal government and cut costs.

Obama named Aneesh Chopra, the Harvard-educated secretary of technology for the state of Virginia, as the federal government's first chief technology officer. Chopra, 36, will help reduce health care costs and foster cybersecurity.

"In this role, Aneesh will promote technological innovation to help achieve our most urgent priorities - from creating jobs and reducing health care costs to keeping our nation secure," Obama said in his Saturday radio and Internet address.

Chopra's corporate experience included working as managing director of the Advisory Board Company, a Washington-based health research company.

Another Indian-American, Vivek Kundra, will serve as chief information officer. Kundra is responsible for "responsible for setting technology policy across the government, and using technology to improve security, ensure transparency, and lower costs," Obama said.

Kundra, 34, was chief technology officer for the city of Washington.

Obama also named Jeffrey Zients, a longtime management consultant, as chief performance officer. His selection comes after Obama's first choice for the newly created position, Nancy Killefer, withdrew in February over tax problems. Zients, a founder and managing partner of the investment firm Portfolio Logic, will also serve as a deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget.

"With the leadership of these individuals, I am confident that we can break our bad habits, put an end to the mismanagement that has plagued our government and start living within our means again," Obama said. "That is how we will get our deficits under control and move from recovery to prosperity."

On Feb. 3, Killefer, a senior partner at McKinsey & Co., withdrew her candidacy to be chief performance officer, saying she didn't want her mishandling of payroll taxes on her household help to become a distraction

So far I think only Sen. Byrd has spoken up about the giant power grab by obama. Apparently Congress doesn’t care that EVERYTHING will now be decided (or decreed) in the WH. This is a monarchy.

The guy from DC had ghost employees on his payroll..but he never “knew”.

That's not nearly as bad as what the car czar, Rattner, is accused of. It looks like he or his firm bribed officials of the State of NY in order to gain the contract to manage pension fund investments.

I just re-read, and I think I’m seeing more reasons to be nervous. I don’t like the word “transparency” because I know it doesn’t refer to obama - just to the rest of us. And the same with “security.” It’s one thing after the other.

"So far I think only Sen. Byrd has spoken up about the giant power grab by obama."

Good point.

Byrd complained on the floor of the Senate that these Commissars (political enforcers) will oversee entire levels of government with authority above cabinet members yet not be confirmed by the legislature.

In fact the cabinet secretaries will be the know nothings, a la Janet Reno, who will be called to testify before Congress.

The Commissars will enforce the party line and report directly to Rammit Emanuel.

“reducing health care costs”: This sounds like Democrat Speak for
1. Regulating the price of drugs (there goes Research and Development)
2. Universal health care, where hidden government subsidies will enable medicare to compete unfairly with private insurers and drive them out of business. The actual costs will be much higher than they are now, and once competition disappears health care (especially to old people)will be rationed.

He means no real American would do stuff to destroy the country that these foreigners are so willing to do.

This is not at all the way our government is supposed to be operating. I fear the damage is so extensive we might not be able to repair - even if obama left office tomorrow.

And if you Like America so much, use our Model, instead of tearing it down to emulate the Country you left.

The problem is not with the Indians; it’s with the American system that enables them to prosper here. Fix that, if you have a problem.

I don’t have a problem with the Foreign born workers prospering....but with 1 Billion Indians can replace all Americans 3 times over, we need to LIMIT Immigration to the BEST Country on the Planet....OR....it will NOT be the BEST Country on the Planet.

A Computer Consulting Firm makes MORE MONEY placing a Foreign Contractor in an American JOB.....because the Foreign workers will work for less. Laws on the books state that an American Corporation cannot hire a high Tech foreign worker UNLESS....There is NO QUALIFED AMERICAN to do the job....Enforce THAT LAW, and Americans will get Trained to do the Job.

” The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) filed a class-action lawsuit against AT&T on January 31, 2006, accusing the telecom giant of violating the law and the privacy of its customers by collaborating with the National Security Agency (NSA) in its massive, illegal program to wiretap and data-mine Americans’ communications”

Just one little example of what the DC oligarch’s have in mind for their subjects in flyover country.

How many Czars are we up to now?

It's official: Obama creates more czars than the Romanovs

It has finally happened. With yesterday's naming of Border Czar Alan Bersin, the Obama administration has by any reasonable reckoning passed the Romanov Dynasty in the production of czars. The Romanovs ruled Russia from 1613 with the ascension of Michael I through the abdication of Czar Nicholas II in 1917. During that time, they produced 18 czars. While it is harder to exactly count the number of Obama administration czars, with yesterday's appointment it seems fair to say it is now certainly in excess of 18.

In addition to Bersin, we have energy czar Carol Browner, urban czar Adolfo Carrion, Jr., infotech czar Vivek Kundra, faith-based czar Joshua DuBois, health reform czar Nancy-Ann DeParle, new TARP czar Herb Allison, stimulus accountability czar Earl Devaney, non-proliferation czar Gary Samore, terrorism czar John Brennan, regulatory czar Cass Sunstein, drug czar Gil Kerlikowske, and Guantanamo closure czar Daniel Fried. We also have a host of special envoys that fall into the czar category including AfPak special envoy Richard Holbrooke, Mideast peace envoy George Mitchell, special advisor for the Persian Gulf and Southwest Asia Dennis Ross, Sudan special envoy J. Scott Gration and climate special envoy Todd Stern. That's 18.

Whatever you said, but what can Indians do to prevent themselves from enjoying an opportunity to contribute, that America is providing? Surely it is the latter, and specifically, Americans, who need to control this.

The hypocrisy of liberals is shocking but yet a liberal must be a hypocrite, that is a requirement. If a Republican President lived even 1% of the King style decadent life style that Obama is having in the White House the media and liberals would have called for his impeachment.
