So do I, with 4 young enlisted in the immediate family. I’m NOT hearing of much drug use. The military also does a LOT of drug testing, and there is no tolerance for those caught.
We DO have folks use drugs. Like I said, a lot of young enlisted bring their civilian habits into the military with them. That is why there is aggressive drug testing.
Well, I’ve posted just about all the info I’ve come across, personally and publicly..., so I guess that will just be what I’ve come across and yours will be what you’ve come across...
Past that point, all I can say is that the original point of this thread was about these women who have reported that they were raped, and I certainly would like to see that kind of a problem taken care of, one way or the other.
My personal preference would be for women to be out of combat situations and be in areas, in the military where they will never encounter combat. I’m sure they could serve with distinction there.
A friend of mine was accused of rape while we were in the army, by a female soldier. Two weeks after they had sexual intercourse she filed a rape complaint against him.
She had been all over him that particular night, and had taken him to her room. After the accusation, he asked me how it was even possible for him to have raped her when she initiated the contact and was on top.
Luckily, we provided enough witnesses to make the notion that he had raped her look unreasonable. We never did find out why she made the accusation.
Let me rephrase:
Which 9 teenage or 20’s age young males would you want to be ALONE WITH YOUR DAUGHTER in a war zone, for a year
Yet another article trying to depict our soldiers as nothing more than a bunch of drooling rapists. I’m surprised that they didn’t throw in a survey regarding all of the baby killing that our servicemen like to do.
Give me a break! I don’t doubt that some funny business goes on, but not to this extent. I do not buy into surveys. They are just not as accurate as they would seem. There is always some kind of skewing going on and bias as well.
I don’t know about these vets. They are apt to become homegrown terrorists and go on rape sprees. I say we intern them in camps when they come home from serving our country(extreme sarcasm).
I don’t think one needs to accept our military men behave as the author claims to simply be realistic. No matter how carefully you screen and train, there will be a few bad apples in every bushel.
Real rapists and harassers, as I understand, do so serially. Which means, you can have a fraction of 1% who, given the numbers involved, behave badly toward many (many) women—and given the more important things in combat (like surviving) they can get away with it.
It’s not insulting to our current fighting men to admit the wisdom of virtually all generations past—in not having female soldiers.
