Richard Phillips, who was freed from his ordeal with Somali pirates on Easter Sunday, landed in Burlington, Vt., late Friday afternoon on a small blue Maersk chartered jet.

What an inspiration.
I saw it during Cavuto on Fox! Cavuto said many people would disagree with him that he is not a hero. He and the U.S. military are all our heroes! WHOOHOO!
ping
I watched Fox’ coverage of the return of the Captain to his family and something I saw or didn’t see has made me write this note hoping others will have a chance to tell me what I witnessed was incorrect.
The captain thanked everyone, his kids his crew, his family, his mother.... and not his wife.
His wife kept trying to hold his arm and he kept pulling away from her and hugging his daughter and son and he never did look at her or give her a happy kiss - perhaps he is a very shy man - but it just seemed rather odd. When leaving the tarmac he walked away from her with his kids - just leaving her back a few steps and alone.
Like there was another whole play for the camera going on and they were trying to keep a pleasant act going....
I hope I am wrong and they are very much in love after what those two have been through.
If anyone saw the video I’d appreciate your thoughts.
A truly brave man!
I noticed no mention of Obama (heh heh)
eyeah, I think it took them 3 days to try to convince him to talk up Obambi...but...eh eh
no no...he did thank his wife, a couple of times...once right before he kissed her
This being VT, I’m surprised there weren’t a few pro pirate demonstrators there. Don’t tell me there aren’t a lot of them upset that some “pirates” had to be killed.
Oh thank you thank you - none of my friends saw the clip and I have to wait until someone sees it this evening - but now you have answered what I must have missed tuning into it a bit late.
Thank heaven - the wife was smiling and I thought perhaps they were just a shy couple and too overcome to show much emotion - but he was cuddling his kids - and not her - that I could see.
What a beautiful sight they all made and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know things are ok with the Captain and his wife.
I read the article..did you all catch it that the wife said “I’ve ALWAYS been proud to be an American..today I’m even prouder”.
Take that Michelle.
eyep....was my thinking right off the start
I loved it.
Noticed how he was so gracious and thanked everyone involved.....
Mr. Try to Steal the Credit—Obama..... was not mentioned!!!!!!
“I watched Fox coverage of the return of the Captain to his family and something I saw or didnt see has made me write this note hoping others will have a chance to tell me what I witnessed was incorrect.”
You are incorrect. They kissed and he thanked her by name (Andrea) at the end. Why would you not double check and watch it again before making a comment like that?
Having spoken to some SEAL pals here in Virginia Beach yesterday and asking why this thing dragged out for 4 days, I got the following:
1. BHO wouldnt authorize the DEVGRU/NSWC SEAL teams to the scene for 36 hours going against OSC (on scene commander) recommendation.
2. Once they arrived, BHO imposed restrictions on their ROE that they couldnt do anything unless the hostages life was in imminent danger
3. The first time the hostage jumped, the SEALS had the raggies all sighted in, but could not fire due to ROE restriction
4. When the navy RIB came under fire as it approached with supplies, no fire was returned due to ROE restrictions. As the raggies were shooting at the RIB, they were exposed and the SEALS had them all dialed in.
5. BHO specifically denied two rescue plans developed by the Bainbridge CPN and SEAL teams.
6. Bainbridge CPN and SEAL team CDR finally decide they have the OpArea and OSC authority to solely determine risk to hostage. 4 hours later, 3 dead raggies
7. BHO immediately claims credit for his daring and decisive behaviour. As usual with him, its BS.
So per our last email thread, Im downgrading Oohbabys performace to D-. Only reason its not an F is that the hostage survived.
Read the following accurate account.
Philips first leap into the warm, dark water of the Indian Ocean hadnt worked out as well. With the Bainbridge in range and a rescue by his countrys Navy possible, Philips threw himself off of his lifeboat prison, enabling Navy shooters onboard the destroyer a clear shot at his captors and none was taken.
The guidance from National Command Authority the president of the United States, Barack Obama had been clear: a peaceful solution was the only acceptable outcome to this standoff unless the hostages life was in clear, extreme danger.
The next day, a small Navy boat approaching the floating raft was fired on by the Somali pirates and again no fire was returned and no pirates killed. This was again due to the cautious stance assumed by Navy personnel thanks to the combination of a lack of clear guidance from Washington and a mandate from the commander in chiefs staff not to act until Obama, a man with no background of dealing with such issues and no track record of decisiveness, decided that any outcome other than a peaceful solution would be acceptable.
After taking fire from the Somali kidnappers again Saturday night, the on scene commander decided hed had enough.
Keeping his authority to act in the case of a clear and present danger to the hostages life and having heard nothing from Washington since yet another request to mount a rescue operation had been denied the day before, the Navy officer unnamed in all media reports to date decided the AK47 one captor had leveled at Philips back was a threat to the hostages life and ordered the NSWC team to take their shots.
Three rounds downrange later, all three brigands became enemy KIA and Philips was safe.
I personally think he was only mentioned afterward because it was successful.....does ANYONE think Ears would have taken responsibility if it went terribly wrong?..It would have been shuffled down to the cook on the ship
.WOW......now we know why he didn’t mention BHO....the asswipe went Sandy Berger in a time of crisis.....
I wonder if he knows how much trouble he’s in?
-I don’t know if he has Military experience, but he has spent some time around them.
-He mentioned God more than once.
-He thanked folks for thier prayers.
-I could be wrong, but it seems that he and his wife let their kids live instead of aborting them.
-He failed to thank the real hero in all of this....Obama!!!! THAT’S a biggie.
Conclusion: It looks like this poor guy fits the government profile and just might be one of those really scary suspected Terrorist Right Wing Extremists.
Heck, you could almost hear him clinging to his bible.
