Strong words from a non-Texan.
My point is that there is no legal way to leave the Union and there is not enough support in my Texas to leave the Union.
I had made the point on Texas board that secession in 1860 was actually a revolutionary act.
That said, we have a Federal Govt that is far more intrusive. As some point, asserting the power to say “NO” to defend one’s liberty becomes not just justifiable but necessary to freedom. It becomes no different from what happened in the American Revolution.
But freedom aint free, is it.
Need to bring up the Sam Houston quote that warned about the consequence of secession in 1860. See below.
I dont think today’s Federal Govt would have the stomach for the kind of fight that Lincoln waged to keep the union ...
“Let me tell you what is coming-—your fathers and husbands, your sons and brothers, will be herded at the point of bayonets-—You may, after the sacrifice of countless millions of treasure and hundreds of thousands of lives, as a bare possibility, win Southern independence ...but I doubt it. I will tell you that, while I believe with you in the doctrine of States Rights, the North is determined to preserve this Union. They are not a fiery, impulsive people as you are, for they live in colder climates. But when they begin to move in a given direction, they move with the steady momentum and perserverance of a mighty avalanche.”
Sam Houston -— Governor of Texas
30 percent said they support secession in a poll reported on KRLD today. That’s about the same percent that favored independancein 1776.
