The first orders of business addressed by the Republic of Texas were to set up a holiday on May 2nd where effigies of Gen. Santa Anna will be burned publicly, and to require all state business to be done wearing ‘coonskin caps.

I am proud, and grateful that I, & my children, are Americans.

However; we are Texans first.
(does anyone really get homesick for Nebraska?)

“...set up a holiday on May 2nd”

That should be March 2, Texas Independence Day, when Texans declared themselves to be free from Mexico, while Travis and Crockett were being shelled by the Mexican Army at the Alamo.
The 188 Texan patriots died on March 6, the day that will live in true Texan hearts forever...unless Texas public school education successfully obliterates our history.
March 2, Texas Independence Day, is now “Texas Flag Day” on the public school calendars, so we don’t offend the huge population of Mexican children being educated by our tax dollars. That’s one thing Texans should not be proud of.
