AUSTIN, TX – Texas has seceded from the union. Led by Governor Rick Perry, Texans and frustrated Conservatives are clamoring to Texas to start a new country.

Texas’ state congress held an emergency session on Thursday, and in a 180-1 vote decided to secede from the union.

Originally the Texas Senate opposed the actions of the State Congress, until the Congressmen asked if they would like to “step outside.” After a brief scuffle behind the Capitol building...

As much as we would love even more Conservatives in Texas, we can't support huge amounts of folks moving here. (not that they already aren't)

We have issues with water in most parts of the state as it is. Also our highway capacity is suspect.

What I would personally like to see is people from other states drawing their own *line in the sand*. Let the Feds know you're serious.

I'm not going to say we won't secede but, only as a last resort.

OTOH, if you can get 10 illegal families to move to Virginia.....maybe we can talk. }>)

The title and the source do not mark it effectively.

Sorry, to disagree with you.

Many States are waking up with 10th Amendment legislation. State’s Rights have been trampled by the Federal government over the years.

It is time to take back their rightful place under the Constitution.

IMHO, the repeal the 16th and 17th Amendment is also in order. As well as passing the FairTax. A Flat Income Tax is a good idea, however with the IRS/IRS Code in place we are no beter off then we are now.

Texas would have to set up a military at once, because within 10 years the old country would attack and try to destroy it. The would have to, because a successful Texas would be exposing the lie that their socialist world was built on.

Well, we've got the Texas National Guard and the Texas A&M Corps - that's a really good start. In addition, we would ensure that the troops guarding the boarder actually have bullets and they will use them.

“would attack and try to destroy it.”

Texas would get all the military veterans and two thirds of the US military. The other third would be the useless wimps who want to be nice to the enemy.

okay, so we wait 5/10 years, build the Texas economy and military to its peak, and then we take the rest of the country back.

It might be bloodless, but I would doubt it.

I think the Gov is picking the wrong fight to make his point. Regardless of the terms of TX entering the union and whatever the TX constitution says, this can easily be portrayed as silly and illegal by the MSMwhores to the overwhelmingly ignorant and clueless populace (see Obama, B.H., election of 2008).

A better way to make the 10th Amendment point is to assert sovereignty over the state’s resources. Auction off off-shore oil leases, turn the oil companies loose exploit all possibilities within Texas. The Constitution gives the federal government no authority whatsoever to regulate commerce within any given state – only between the states.

That’ll bring money into the state, pay down deficits, reduce taxes, spur the state economy. People understand that real fast.

Are you saying states could put a tax on federal government revenue collected from members of the state? Is that even legal/constitutional?

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea. A state could institute a 75% tax on all the revenues collected from the state by the federal government. (I would say 100%, but I do still believe in a national defense). and give it back to the people of the state.

Is this a way that states could reclaim their sovereignty?

Succession or secession? Succession is what Prince Charles worries about - conservatives want secession...just helping out. : )

Secession, not succession. Thanks.

(I suppose we need mandatory spell-checking and word-use government programs. In French, of course.)

Texas has a military, it is called the National Guard and would go with the state if they seceded. I would place money on most of our military refusing to fight Texas if it came to that unless a complete purge of the Military was carried out and only leftards were allowed in, in which case they would no longer be the best trained military in the world but a bunch of left wing losers.
