Are we certain that he is a Reverend? If he had nothing to hide why did he challenge the BP agents with the 4th Amendment. If you are a border checkpoint, car searches are a reasonable request.

Maybe for the same reason most people wouldn't let police search their house without a warrant... he was just trying to keep one of the last rights 'we the people' still have.

Right,,, I think I have heard that before,,, "If you have done nothing wrong you should have nothing to fear." I think there is never a thing wrong with a free people to challenge someone in authority with what should be a human right.
You could turn that around and say,
If the BP were doing nothing wrong, why did they beat him up when he exercised his constitution rights?
