(AP) ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin acknowledged Tuesday that global warming was harming her state but said stepped-up natural-gas production could mitigate its effects.
Speaking at a hearing before Interior Secretary Ken Salazar -- the third of several he is holding to consider renewed oil and gas leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf -- Palin said that relatively clean-burning natural gas could supplant dirtier fuels and slow the discharge of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
"We Alaskans are living with the changes that you are observing in Washington," she said. "The dramatic decreases in the extent of summer sea ice, increased coastal erosion, melting of permafrost, decrease in alpine glaciers and overall ecosystem changes are very real to us."

this is a set up thread by the TP loons and others.
Thank goodness that are some adults on FR to blow
out the loons.
These types never state who they are for on this type of a thread. They are the type who can’t be challenged
I do understand that particular battle but what she said, if she was quoted correctly, paints a picture that I simply can't appreciate and that is factually wrong. This is a form of 'Stockholm syndrome' with regards to the press and the Leftists, at the worse and simple igornance of all the facts at the best.
Look, I was her biggest supporter at the time she was chosen and even in the Gibson interview (while they were walking) she alluded to the idea that global warming may not be man-made and that it didn't matter as long as we worked for a cleaner planet. I questioned her view then but it was at least acceptable without having any other info, but her statements here - again, if reported correctly, shows an entirely different viewpoint - an acknowledgement of global warming even though she still might not think it is 'man-made' - although some of the comments made even point to that. Eg.:
"Stopping domestic energy production of preferred fuels does not solve the issues associated with global warming and threatened or endangered species, but it can make them worse,"
Acknowledging that even the 'preferred fuels' can "make them worse" shows an agreement that man can have an effect on global warming. I don't buy it.
I have 15 years in AZ. Cowboy family from the ‘20’s as well. Do I have to read it or can you give a summary?
At this point I'd bet that you're right on that. I'm not going to close my mind to more information though. I've been burned enough times by politicians saying what they think I want to hear when they want my vote, and then later finding out they've been playing me for the fool.

Palin previously had questioned the science behind predictions of sea ice loss. Her administration sued the federal government to block endangered species protections for polar bears, whose habitat is melting.
The article completely ignores numerous statements the governor made during the recent presidential campaign about global warming. And it fails to mention that the governor created a sub-cabinet on climate change long before she ran for vice-president.
Is the following idiotic and/or cowardly enough?
“Simply waiting for low-carbon-emitting renewable capacity to be large enough will mean that it will be too late to meet the mitigation goals for reducing [carbon dioxide] that will be required under most credible climate-change models,” she warned.
“Meeting these goals will require a dramatic increase . . . to preferred available fuels, including natural gas, that have a very low carbon footprint . . .,” she said. “These available fuels are required to supply the nation's energy needs during the transition to green energy alternatives.”
Sarah's trying to save Alaska from Obama, and, pardon me, but WTH does Romney have to do with this?
It's Interior Secretary Ken Salazar that's walking around with the hundreds of thousands of miles of yellow CLOSED signs and bouys that you need to read up on.
HOPE AND PRAY that she was political enough, and that he isn't at this moment marking up a map of Alaska with big black X's and circles. He can, has, and will on a whim or a nod from zero.
It was a lie.
Do you have any pictures of it?
I can compare them to pictures
I took in 1981, if you do.
I can’t believe some would fall for this. Josh Painter is right. This is a wedge issue the rats are going to us to split us are we going to let them. Before everybody decides to jump ship do some research on Gov. Palin’s position.
I only support candidates who have a set of values, don’t flip on the issues every other week.
I don’t buy into those who tell you what you want to hear or I would be supporting the candidates the loons on this thread support.
Gov. Palin Testifies on Development of Outer Continental Shelf
Governor Palin Testifies on Outer Continental Shelf
April 14, 2009, Juneau, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin today testified before Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar in a federal hearing in Anchorage, urging the Obama administration to stand by Salazars confirmation hearing statement favoring wise, responsible use of conventional fuels, such as the oil and gas resources found in abundance in the Outer Continental Shelf.
Alaska has consistently supported oil and gas development in our OCS, Governor Palin testified. We have done so recognizing that certain areas should be exempted from leasing, or have seasonal drilling restrictions imposed to protect whale migrations.
We have done so because we recognize the significance OCS development will have on the nations and the states economic and energy future. We have done so because we know oil and gas development can occur appropriately, while protecting the environment, the species and the people impacted. We have proven this can be done.
The fact that Alaskas OCS potential to produce oil and gas is world-class is supported by the best peer reviewed scientific estimates.
Alaskas oil and gas resources can and should be a major part of the implementation of any creditable energy plan for our nation. Alaska has proven that these resources can be developed safely, but Arctic exploration and development is a slow, demanding process.
Delays or major restrictions in accessing these resources for environmentally responsible development are not in the national interest or the interests of the State of Alaska.

Video of the governor’s testimony:
Thank you, She sued the government for bogus restrictions against the state, made statements about Gore’s global warming, and created a sub-cabinet on the reality of it.
The first quote you mention here I have commented on several times already above...don't feel like doing it again.
I don't see what is objectionable about the second quote you cite. Palin has always said she is in favor of developing alternative energy.

Here she says restrictions, read that as eviro laws, are hurting, not helping. doesn't quite sound like the article, which doesn't give quotes as far as I can see, does it?
Delays or major restrictions in accessing these resources for environmentally responsible development are not in the national interest or the interests of the State of Alaska.
