Long Island based ship, Liberty Sun, was carrying humanitarian aide. The 20 man crew is apparently unhurt as USS Bainbridge makes its way towards distressed vessel.
Just pour boiling pork fat down on them as they board...
.
The UN does fulfill one important function:
They park their cars in front of NYC fire hydrants, parking meters, no parking zone signs, they double-park, and generally make sure nobody else can find a place to park in NYC
I would say from reading about it that he didn’t screw it up majorly, but probably dragged it out too long with indecision. The results were positive, so it is what it is. I am sure the anger at the slow action we saw from the SEAL on tv reflects the situation well. It could have been over sooner with decisive action.
Sometimes the creative thing to do is to roll the policy pages up alongside the toilet.
If a rule is stupid, rip it out and wipe. No?
That's nice of them isn't it. /sarcasm of course
There’s been a lot of misinformation spread about this.
There is no “international law” or any such thing that prevents private vessels from being armed. The LOST treaty, to which the U.S. isn’t even a signor, is also silent on the topic anyway.
Many private yachts DO carry weapons. It is NOT a big hassle in pretty much any port. Customs in most ports will merely put a seal on the storage locker or wherever they are kept. It is not an unusual thing and customs people in most any country are accustomed (sic) to dealing with such things. There is no reason a commercial cargo ship couldn’t do the exact same thing.
Especially for ordinary weapons like rifles and shotguns there should be no trouble at all. There might be some squishiness with the customs folk if there were some more exotic weapons like mounted 50’s or RPG’s or Grenades or some such. But for the relatively pedestrian weapons there really shouldn’t be any trouble at all.
LOL
Which is why what these scumbags are doing is particularly offensive. The whole world knows cargo ships are unarmed. Though some of these crews are doing a great job of defending themselves with nothing but water hoses and fancy maneuvering. F 18s would be better, of course. Really looking forward to seeing some of those “motherships” and mansions go up in flames. Too bad Obambi doesn’t have the guts for it.
.
You never have an icepick when you really need one!
LOLOLOL - good point, so true! I bet Obama's staff will be teaching the teleprompter Samalian. Hope they handle translations better than they did with the Russians for Hillary's visit.
we need to take out the profit and this will cease to exist.
Something like a roving Predator drone, ready to Hellfire any unchartered Somalian boat that dares to confront a commercial vessel, would be nice right now.
Jihadis. Count on it.
It'll be a whole new class of "pirate" and this'll be on the news for a l o n g time.
I never could have imagined that testing his mettle would involve Somalian pirates in small boatcrafts.
I agree.....but our great & powerful U.S. Navy or our entire military for that matter is not the problem. Unfortunately we have bureaucratic dunces in control of our military, both at the Pentagon, but especially the head usurper commie pig-in-chief, 0booooombi, who is scared $h_tless over unleashing our military to eradicate the problem of piracy in the Indian Ocean against his fellow muzzies. What buffoons & idiots!!!
I have read numerous articles today from weak kneed, whiny, hand wringing liberals (including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff), literally crying over how hard it is to effectively fight against this, especially with the "poor conditions in Somalia, being the cause of this". WTH??? Put a few basic weapons on the ships, tell them to call in the military when chased after by some dilapidated fishing boat that is firing at them, and blow that dilapidated boat to kingdom come. I would bet that afer a couple of dozen pirate's boats being wiped out in this fashion, that the vast majority of piracy problems would be solved.
Where is our next Ronald Reagan with such a firm, simple grasp of the problem....We Win, They Lose.
Oh I think we’ve been doing it. We just never get any freakin’ credit. Still, today, even though this is happening, it’s just like “whatever” to the media. No one’s saying, “Hey, this is HUMANITARIAN AID they are hijacking!”
This made me laugh out loud. From the look of your replies, I might be the only one who gets your sarcasm.
The ship was never “hijacked”. Please read the news article before posting.
I like that Idea..Have a Predator escort each ship.
