Childress has Nascar’s blessing to hold onto that number - I just wonder if it will remain that way. I know one of his grandsons is running the 3 in a lower division. I don’t ever want to see that number racing in Cup - it needs to remain retired.

I don’t ever want to see that number racing in Cup - it needs to remain retired.I agree, but hope Jr. owns it to make it retired forever. It is puzzling to me that NASCAR doesn't permanently retire #s that ought to be. #43 is another example.
