I think it is true. Caroline’s name came out early in the campaign, can't remember exactly what she did, nominating committee, maybe. I think she decided to break into politics and this was going to be her start. I am delighted she bombed out, for whatever reason.

Caroline and Ted Kennedy, fairly early in the Dem primary process, came out and endorsed Obama .. it was a turning point, a crucial turning point, in his bid for the nomination.
She was then appointed to his VP selection committee. And we all know what a great selection that was.
Since then the push to be given the NY senate seat Hillary was vacating, revalations of purported extramarital affair, and the purported bid for Vatican ambassador have taken her reputation down more than a notch.
