PHOENIX, April 13 (UPI) -- Arizona officials say illegal immigrants who boycott the U.S. Census would only be hurting themselves because it would mean fewer federal resources for them.
Even as Census Bureau officials have opened a public relations campaign to build trust with undocumented residents, immigrant advocates are threatening to boycott the Census as a protest against stepped-up law enforcement crackdowns, The Arizona Republic reported Monday.
Such a boycott could deny Arizona's financially hurting cities and towns much- needed federal tax dollars, which are doled out based on population, officials fear.
Phoenix City Councilman Michael Nowakowski warns against a census boycott, saying, "I believe it would have a huge impact, but the huge impact would be on the immigrant community."
"I know that people are afraid of the different raids we are having in the state, especially in Maricopa County, but we can assure them that this information (will be) perfectly safe," Vianey Celestino, an Arizona spokeswoman for the U.S. Census Bureau, told the Republic.
As illegal immigrants they should only be considered temporary transients and not residents and therefore not subject the enumeration in the first place.
That's against the law, you know.

Of course, so is trespassing.
Importantly, remember how W. Bush *stopped* the census from extrapolating, that is, guessing inflated numbers of how many homeless, illegals, etc. people there were? There was a really big fight about it at the time, but W. Bush decided that an “actual enumeration” meant just that.
Well, one of the first things Obama did in office was not just bring back the old rules, but put the White House, i.e. Rahm Emanuel, in charge of the census, instead of the Census Department.
So you know they intend to corrupt the hell out of the census, to try and keep the Democrats in power.
What a mess. Just boot them all out and get this anchor baby crap in front of the Supreme Court
Tell ‘em they absolutely SHOULD boycott the census !
You mean the same "qualifications" we have now?
Those who refuse to leave and are caught should be sent back home and banned for at least a decade, if not life, from returning.
Wouldn't hurt. You would need fingerprints and/or DNA, not just a potentially phony ID card. But we would need better class of congresscritters than we have now to pass such a bill.
In any case, I don't think it would work without mandatory e-verify.
You are right and I am writing of an ideal situation. It could work, if we had the will. But we don’t. America has become a land where feelings rule and it doesn’t take many sob stories before the rule of law and our principles are thrown to the wind so someone won’t be hurt.
