A portrait of contrasts emerges from those who knew Poplawski
Post Gazette ^

-snip-

About a year ago, Mr. Poplawski stopped working to have knee surgery, according to Ms. Devine. Later he took to walking two pit bull mixes, now 7 months old, that the family adopted from the Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania. After the shootings, city Animal Control returned them to the shelter. Charlotte Grimme, the shelter's executive director, described them as healthy and good-tempered.

But it was one of those dogs urinating on the carpet that apparently prompted the argument between Mr. Poplawski and his mother that spawned her 911 call and brought unsuspecting police into an apparent ambush.

In the hours after the standoff ended and during interviews with detectives, Mr. Poplawski bragged about his actions, telling them he thought he might have killed as many as five officers.

“Unlike most 18-year-olds, Mr. Poplawski registered to vote almost as soon as he was legal. His party affiliation was Republican. He voted in the 2004 and 2008 presidential general elections.”

That explains it, I guess.

A crazed killer who had pit bulls as pets? How many folks are going to be shocked by that.

Am wondering, if the dog survived - or whas he the first to go?

Why would his political party make any difference to anyone?

Other than Libs-Dems-MSM to make it . . . Bush’s Fault?

BTW, it’s NOT the gun’s fault that this idiot bought it and used it in a crime. Ultimately, it’s Richard Andrew Poplawski’s OWN FAULT. It’s not like he was five years old and confused. He already showed he was capable of making healthy decisions.

Oh, and for killing the cops . . . even though it’s cheaper to keep a criminal in jail for a year rather than give him the death penalty . . . a public hanging would be too good for him.

I am ALWAYS stunned that so many idiots think that the way to ‘solve’ their problem is to murder the person they think is responsible for the problem. I don’t condone suicide, but the solution to whatever the problem is does not include killing another person, just look in the mirror, point and squeeze the trigger.

Because the article is from the P'burgh Post-Gazette which is as left-wing looney as papers get. Being a registered Republican would be ESSENTIAL info as far as the paper is concerned and no doubt, a contributing factor to his being a cop killer. This is a paper that has NEVER been fit for bird cage lining.

Well, you could always read the excerpt above, or would you prefer to speculate.

"After the shootings, city Animal Control returned them to the shelter. Charlotte Grimme, the shelter's executive director, described them as healthy..."

Sorry; could not make it to the seventh paragraph from bottom of this most excruciatingly detailed, 'Liberally' psychologised, painstakenly chronicled biography of "MR." Poplawski.

Although, I almost quit; did keep reading after it was 'appropriately' noted he was a Republican. Managed to keep going; despite the pained efforts of the writers here to add 'insult to injury' by their detailed inclulsion of his racist ruminations - which like his Catholic school records; should have been - at the least - considered as SEALED.

Kudos to those who made it all the way through; and thanks for sharing the details which were just too close to the bottom line here.

Think I did pretty well; made it to:

"Something bad happened to his mom, and he had to go back to Pittsburgh," Mr. Carrano said. Mr. Poplawski wasn't happy about returning home. The night before he left, he swam into the middle of Lake Wellington, Mr. Carrano said, despite warnings of the alligators there.

And really glad (at your behest) that I did a 're-read' here; or I would have missed altogether; the closing: Before they embraced, the breeze that kept the American flags and black ribbons fluttering carried her sobs, the word "sorry" and the hard-to-fathom claim: "He was a good boy."

(What I cannot figure out is 'why'. . .despite the multi-layers of detail here; that no one explains what looks like a very deep scar or 'gash' on his cheeck. An old battle, the writers missed here (?). . .or; perhaps this was received during his recent effort to make a 'success story' for himself. . .a story that someone would eventually, put into words, for him.

Also, am trying NOT to wonder, what became of the dog entrusted to him when 'dog sitting'.

And lastly; have this nagging thought as to whether 'MISTER' Poplawski - after he moved in with 'Grandmother'; made his then, soon-to-be, ailing Grandfather. . .'nervous'?)

Three good things about the Post-Gazette.

Jack Kelley's opinion piece.
The Sports section.
The Outdoors section.

Oh, I'll thrown in Ruth Ann Dailey's columns as a worthwhile read and Brian O'Neill's on occasion, especially when he writes about baseball from time to time. He wrote an excellent column several years back that got a campaign together to get a WWII Marine his medals.

"Mr. Poplawski began buying firearms through GunBroker.com and Braverman Arms Co. in Wilkinsburg."

Bravermans is a good gun store. You can't miss it because it is painted in camoflauge on the outside. They have good prices on ammo there.
