At presser defense dept said captain's life was in danger, said they had orders to negotiate as long as captain safe, but if deemed captain's life in danger - to act.

Admiral said a gun was pointed at Captain's head and all snipers had clear shots at all 3 pirates and took it. NPR asked if gun had been held to captain's head before, if so, why fire now?

Admiral said captain had been shot at when he jumped in water on first escape attempt. Captain did not jump in water to escape, snipers took out all 3 pirates at once while captain still on boat. 4th pirate was not with captain.
