Since editorial comment is allowed here on FR I see no reason why either you, I, or others are not allowed to make informed comments. Knowing your past I value your judgments.
I have over 30 years of journalism experience both in print and on the air and was asked for editorial opinion by some rather large papers before I stopped writing. So I don't hesitate to given what I consider an informed opinion from time to time as well.
I am operating on the assumption that the Captain once again took the helm as far as his escape went and this time the SEALS had oppotunity.
The tepid response of the WH says it all.

these reporters seem anoyed that the pirates didn’t make it after all.

This NPR idiot is asking again HOW the three pirates died...who cares!!! Will they ask if they suffered, too???
What if anything differs if the pirated vessel is in some sovereign country’s territorial waters? I think when we offed the pirates it was close enough to Somalia to be in Somalia’s waters. Think Somalia issued us a warrant of some kind on those particular pirates maybe? Which is why their high muckety muck is saying he’s pleased with the outcome?
It makes sense, not like the “speculation” of it taking several days for SEALs to train for something that they have been trained for already.

Once again, you should ping someone when you are discussing them. As far as Obama, my point is that we look like DU pinheads if we are making claims about what Obama did and did not do without the facts. We don't know what the Pentagon requested from Obama - he could have been simply going along with their recommendations. It has been reported that he approved the rescue mission. And IMO it could have taken some time to plan and prepare for the rescue mission. It apparently went off without a hitch, which indicates it wasn't just done on the fly.
The NPR guy is heading to Somalia next to get the pirates’ grieving families on camera.
