Somali elders on Sunday renewed efforts to free an American held hostage for days on a lifeboat after his pirate captors fired on a US navy vessel and defied attempts to have them arrested.

Even as negotiations resumed to free the American captain, pirates manoeuvred an Italian vessel and its 16-strong crew toward the Somali coastline

> I wonder whom he and his family voted for president? Obama carried Vermont.

I’m going to speculate he was one of the seventeen guys who voted McCain/Palin.

You can tell by the cut of his jib: he isn’t selfish, he’s brave, and he’s not a surrender-monkey. And he’s the captain, not a unionized crew member.

Nobody on the left answers to that description.

These elders need to tell the pirates that they will be arrested upon landing and handed over to the Americans if the captain isn’t immediately released.

However I suspect these elders will benefit from any ransom paid.

I assume the main interest of the “Somali elders” here is to free the PIRATES. I think I would let them know the survival of their village depended on the pirates freeing the capt and surrendering. But that’s just me, I guess.

I hope they hold this Captain for about 6 weeks....and Extort $$$’s for him. About 6 weeks, and Obama will have been Tested by Pirates, and as Biden says “We may not necessarily agree” with the Obama approach to terror.

About six weeks, and his International Image will be in the Trash.

Meanwhile, the Tea Parties will take care of his “Local” image.

It would probably benefit the pirates to allow themselves to be arrested. The ACLU would defend them and get them off, then they could sue for damages and get a lot more than the $2 million they’re asking for now. They could probably finance a whole fleet of pirate ships from the lawsuit proceeds....

HeLLFiRe and Tarnation! I think you hit it right on the head.

Somalia is an already ripe pimple and the elders know it. Obama can either grow some or let Joe at ‘em ..

I'd like to know what the rules of engagement are for this situation.

Defied attempts to arrest them? They said NO!

At this point, if the Captain is released alive and peacefully, I’ll suspect a ransom was paid. Right now the Sissy in the White House is probably negotiating an amount of cash rather than fire-power.

Prayers for the Captain.

This is Obama’s new policy made real. There is no more WOT. Terrorist acts will be treated as law enforcement matters. Zero has talked real nice about Muslims and said the US is sorry for bad actions. therefore, Zero expects full co-operation from the Muslim war lords (”village elders”).

Lord Zero has implemented the perfect plan. What could possibly go wrong?

I have been rather upset over this situation.

WHY were the sailors on the Bainbridge not ready for an escape attempt by this captain? He makes his move and we are sitting on our thumbs. If we were locked and loaded then his escape would have been fruitful.

You have to expect an escape attempt by a captain of this caliber.

This is so ridiculous.

>> These elders need to tell the pirates that they will be arrested upon landing and handed over to the Americans if the captain isn’t immediately released.

OUR “elders” need to tell THEIR elders in no uncertain terms that if they don’t immediately put a stop to this pirate BS, they will cease being elders and become DEADers, along with a wide margin of healthy populus just to make sure the cancer is eradicated.

Of course, that won’t happen.

To me, this man is worth more than all of Washington.

Maybe we could work out a swap, say Rahm Emanuel.
