I don’t know...$2 mill seems like a lot to a worthless somali pirate.

The possibility of the birthplace issue being used against us is one of my concerns. Lord knows how many Lord Zero would allow to die to keep his secret.

I know that what I am going to post is pretty rough, but if they reach the coast with Capt. Phillips, he will never be seen again. An emasculated Navy means more of this will happen. It must be stopped, and if Capt. Phillips dies along with his captors, we will erect a monument.
My daughter, grandson, husband, and his parents are visiting Mumbai, India. If she were caught up in something like this I will force myself to accept her death. We cannot allow these slugs to even think they can negotiate. We must harden our hearts, captives must be considered expendable. Forget the yellow ribbons, tie nooses instead.

Stop trying to think, you’re not good at it! The prevailing ocean currents will dump this little boat on shore by Tuesday evening even without ‘rowing’ or a little motor. Unless a drag has been attached to this thing, your best thought scenario is fantasy.

lucky you. I went to high school with Mitch Vogel, Gary Grimes, Anson Williams, Claire Wilcox, and I knew Ron Howard. ALL liberals (probably) too.

I find it amazing that no one has responded to your post until now (up to post #115). Are so many FReepers too young to remember this?
Though costly, the immediate use of force by President Ford stopped Khmer Rouge piracy of US ships in its tracks.
IIRC, the crew of the Mayaguez presented President Ford with the ship's wheel which he proudly displayed in the Oval Office for the remainder of his term.

How do we know that is all they really asked for? Only place I heard that was in the MSM.
Take that for what it is worth.

Of course the captain’s life is important. That’s why I say the situation is complex. If the captain weren’t theree, or if we were willing to sacrifice him, this would be a simple matter of taking out 4 pirates in a dingy and would have been over days ago.

After what the Pentagon has done to Blackwater I would expect them to do it as a sharp stick in the Pentagon's eye. However, they won't mostly because they do not want anymore hassle with the goobermint. Someone else could hire them - legally.

If Petraeus were not in charge, I believe he would “leak” that to the press.

Sorry, should have made clear that Gates is a little older than me.
Gates is a hold over from Bush.
I am hopeful that Gates might resign in disgust at some point.
I would like to see Boeing get the tanker deal first, but Obama might not ever rebuild our tanker fleet.

The captain might be thinking exactly what you wrote.

It is hard to make a leak in those types of life boat...
Which is why it probably already been considered and discounted.
I forgot about the boat the NFL players went fishing in and was still floating with the lone man sitting on the hull.
Still, if one could distabilize the craft with enough water, it could overturn or maybe just distract the "slims" long enough for a quick strike.
Thanks for the info.

Once the somalis knew that it was an American ship, their fear of committing such an action should have been enough to prevent it, but not anymore.

Even a worthless Somali pirate should know that proof about a secret regarding a sitting leader of the free world is worth a lot more than a measly $2 million ~ (ransom price according to the MSM, noted indylindy).

This is what happens when pirates connected to corrupt Kenyan officials blackmail a US President with a threat to release his Kenyan birth records. Now this makes sense
