Pirates Have Gas on Lifeboat, Fire Shots at U.S. Navy Sailors
The captain of a U.S.-flagged ship held hostage by armed pirates on a lifeboat in the Indian Ocean appears to be alive after a daring escape attempt -- but the pirates now seem to have fuel and to be moving closer to shore, sources told ABC News. The latest evidence that Capt. Richard Phillips, 53, is alive came as the pirates holding him in a 28-foot covered lifeboat fired shots at U.S. Navy sailors who approached their vessel at an undisclosed time after the escape bid.

Reports are the captain was immediately grabbed and brtought back to the lifeboat, this was observed by an unmanned drone. The logistics of getting the captain out alive are not simple. For one thing, the lifeboat is covered, so flipping it does not flip everyone in teh water. If you could flip them out, he is tied up and easily could drown.
One would think the pirates need to be told that if they harm the captain they are dead, but that still doesn’t get him free. If you theraten to kill the pirates, they threaten to kill the captain.
Everyone wants to armchair quarterback this. Getting the captain back alive is tricky. It’s after this incident is over that we need a military plan to attack the pirates. And even then they will threaten their hostages.
It’s called khat (or qat). Is a weed that grows indigenously in that part of Africa. The local yocals eat it it like there’s no tomorrow. From what I’ve seen, it has an effect similar to meth.
From a few hundred yards, (which I understand is how far the Navy is standing off) you would just as likely hit what you weren't aiming at (like the captain) than what you were aiming at.
I'm sorry to hear that. I sounds like more or different training is in order. Accurate fire on small boat size targets is vital in order to protect US Navy ships from attack by suicide bombers. Hitting moving targets when the gunnery platform is moving isn't easy, but it can be learned. Just ask any guy who operated a .50 cal gun on a WWII bomber.
Restoration is a given. We cannot think otherwise. The ultimate betrayal of the founders, the dead in all of our wars, and all our patriot teachers down the years is, literally, unthinkable.
Who, what, when, where and how are all, of course, unknown.
I personally do not believe hoarding .308 Winchester will play much of a role, unless Obama allows or facilitates an actual invasion. THAT, I believe, is currently at the no more than 5% probability level.
I envision his leavetaking more like a body rejecting a transplant or a foreign body. Our immune system is just too strong to accept what is going on now, so, somehow, it will end.
They’d possibly be able to use more than one mike to get some positioning of who is where.

You misunderstand. Someone could easily hit the boat. A fifth grader could walk the tracers into the target. It's the "not hitting the captain" while you're at it that's physically impossible.
Hopefully there would be divers beneath to catch a possibly tied up captain.

Give the job of rescuing the captain to our most experienced SEAL team, who have been thoroughly trained for situations just like this. If they can’t pull it off then no one can.

Being that the pirates (terrorists) have Captain Phillips 20 miles from shore, Phillips may soon BE in a hostile country.
