This story comes from Bloomberg -- which we cannot excerpt.
However, we can provide our own summary of the general gist of the article which is that one of the pirates has claimed both sides have agreed to a prisoner exchange -- our captain for four of their outlaws. The article goes on to warn that as of right now, this is by no means a done deal.
You can read the article HERE.
What would that accomplished, IT-CiC???
And the pirates will become heroes for "Defeating heavily armed US Navy vessels using only an unarmed lifeboat."
And then Obama can apologize for "US arrogance."
If true, a great deal.Get the Captain back, and then follow the boat back to shore, and blow it out of the water as it docks. Then pinpoint bombing of every mansion in Piratesville.
Yes there is.
As a retired military person, I expected more intelligence from such, but being in the army is different than being in the Merchant Navy!
There is no need for any rush in this particular situation!!
That lifeboat, (if out of fuel) is going nowhere 300 miles out in the Red Sea. The Navy is in full control, and the lifeboat is loaded with plenty of food and water for 50 persons. So it is very wise just being in the waiting mode and monitoring the situation, and hopefully it will be solved "peacefully" when the pirates have run out of any other options!!!
Personally, if it were me I’d make the deal but have the exchanged prisoners tagged. Then I’d home in on their location and launch a couple of cruise missiles.
can’t swim 300 miles.....another dead muslim radical or 3
Must be that Navy mentality. Jimmy Carter was one of those too. He would agree with you. But with every moment we wait they become emboldened and their stature among the terrorists increases. Plain in simple waiting is liberal idiocy.

For ALL uninformed, this is NOT a tiny or enclosed lifeboat, it holds up to 50 persons with food and water supply for all, a crew of 50, and it has hatches that can opens up!!!
A typically “wise” statement from an IT-Armchair-CiC!!!
What is a Navy mentality???
What is your point with the information from seeBS???
If I were the CO of that destroyer on the scene, the only "negotiation" those pirates would get would be a 5" shell across their bow. After that I'd send in the Marines.
And before I'd let them get ashore, I'd simply say "goodbye" to my career and blow them out of the water, hostage and all.
Why these pukes aren't chum in the belly of a shark by now I cannot understand. Have we really sunk this low? I can't believe this is happening. God help us.
They should have melted a dozen holes in the bottom and top of the boat.
That top would come off in no time and they wouldn’t be able to use the top. All in the water.
Probably to much to hope for. But it woulod send the right message.
"The bombing starts in ten minutes."
Whatever.
It has been reported that the lifeboat has drifted to within 20 miles of the shoreline.
Just daydreaming back to the days when we had real men for presidents who knew what to do with a navy.
That's not the way I see it.
People seem to be treating this like it is an isolated incident. As if the four holding the captain are unsuccessful bank-robbers holding a single hostage in a bank.
In those circumstances, there might be negotiations to try to rescue the hostage.
But this is NOT an isolated incident. The four pirates, if not killed, will probably live to take yet other hostages, perhaps dozens of them. There are no circumstances that I can think of which justify these four pirates reaching land alive.
Force should be used immediately to neutralize the pirates, permitting some little risk to the rescuers, but the killing of even a single rescuer should result in the immediate annihilation of the pirates, even at the cost of the life of the hostage.
It has been reported that other pirate vessels were attempting to provide aid to the lifeboat. These vessels should already have been destroyed.
