[California Congressman] McKeon: F-22 cuts hurt U.S.
Valley Press on ^ | Friday, April 10, 2009. | JAMES RUFUS KOREN

Cuts to the F-22 Raptor fighter jet program could endanger pilots of other U.S. military jets, U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon said Thursday.

Asked about Defense Secretary Robert Gates' recommended cut in the number of F-22s to be built, McKeon said the reductions would kill area jobs and deprive the country of stealthy jets that, in some cases, are the only ones that could accomplish a mission and come back safe.

...

The Air Force had requested Lockheed Martin and Boeing, which jointly build the F-22, to produce 60 more of the aircraft but was hoping for a minimum of 20, McKeon said. Gates' proposed budget, released Monday, calls for only four more of the aircraft. Parts for the F-22 are made in Palmdale, and cuts in orders for the F-22 could mean local job cuts.

But Gates' plan also calls for ramped-up production of the F-35 joint strike fighter, much of which is built in the Antelope Valley.

...

...McKeon told Valley Press editors that he recently had lunch with President Barack Obama and told him he and his administration are out of touch with the rest of the country.

"You don't really know what's going on out there," McKeon said he told Obama. "All your advisers come from academia." ...

McKeon said he told the president he should extend student loan programs and offer a tax incentive for Americans to purchase new cars - an idea McKeon has been floating for months.

Obama and others said the new car incentive wouldn't work, prompting McKeon's assertion that the president doesn't know what Americans are going through.

...

McKeon has emerged as a key voice opposing the Employee Free Choice Act, a bill that would make organizing workers easier for unions.

This could become a big problem for the Democrats in the next election cycle. The love to talk down the military but love the military spending. They have always been duplicitous and thought Obama was as well. This should get interesting.

this bum wants more student loans and subsidizing of new car purchases. kick this bum out.

no tax money to subsidize new car purchases. no money for student loans (make students work, thats what i did)

was not the loose and easy credit to blame for the finaicial “crisis”?

why should we the tax payer grant loans to students? do we really need all these collage students getting loans, and free loading?
what about frugal Americans who have never bought a new car (nor intend to) should we get tax subsidy for used cars, or loans to keep our old cars repaired??? why should someone who cannot afford a car, subsidize a new car to a total stranger?

yes i agree we should purchase 500 F-22 so our AirForce is second to none, but this crap about student loans and subsidizing new cars is crazy. this politician ought to be kicked out of congress for this crap.
