Here's the entire section from The Hill article. No where does it say Romney has changed his position in favor of illegals. This is a manufactured controversy by the liberal media and their friends on FR.

Romney believes that one way to attract more minorities to the GOP is to pass immigration reform before the next election, saying the issue becomes demagogued by both parties on the campaign trail.

“We have a natural affinity with Hispanic-American voters, Asian-American voters,” he said.

Speaking in his Ritz-Carlton room with a pair of blue jeans on the dresser, Romney declined to criticize immigration hard-liners like former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), who backed Romney after he dropped his own presidential bid. Romney argued that all 2008 GOP candidates — including Tancredo — strongly favor legal immigration.

Yes. I thought Romney made a good suggestion. But you would never know it from the knee-jerk, neagative reaction on FR.

Deborah, I don't care if he changed his position or not. But what he is suggesting is a failed policy. There was no one that reached out to those favoring amnesty more than McCain -- and he got WHOMPED by the Hispanics. Half my family is Hispanic, including a couple newly minted citizens, and I can tell you that NONE of them support amnesty. They came here the legal way. To pander to the illegal alien base just shows how tone-deaf and directionless some of these "leaders" are.

I'm so glad the writer threw that in.

So Mitt is for giving a pass to the existing illegals, and not building a wall and guarding the border, so that means we will have yet more illegals coming in.

All on the unproved notion that the GOP which can not hold on or attract American conservatives, is ridiculously white bread, elitists, clueless, couldn’t give away ice cream in Hell.....and is going to win urban Latino illegals that are ALREADY deeply entrenched in the welfare state.

Yeah. Right.
