Serious (Intentional??) flaws in two firearms bills.
"As Maine goes....so goes the nation" old saying
Maine Law, Janus search on LD 814 and LD 985 will give specifics.
LD 985 purports to "close the gunshow loophole" It does so by creating a Civil Offense, chargable to show operator, with $10,000 civil penalty, for an action(s) that is not illegal under state or federal criminal law. Nor does the penalty apply to the "actors". As a Civil Violation, protections of grand juries or trial juries are avoided as well. A very lovely opportunity for anti-gun activists to exploit to close down gun shows.
LD 814 requires ALL firearm transactions, except family members, (not defined) be processed through federal background check. "Firearm" is not defined, thus including currently Federal Exempt catagories of pre-1898 antigues and all Black Powder firearms.
These also enjoy special status as exemption from rules.
I doubt any of the above is accidental. Please be alert for similar bills to go nationwide. I smell an Acorn influence here.
Every time you turn over a rock...there they are!
Where else would you expect to find worms, grubs and other creepy crawly or slithery slimy things?
This is a Gun Ownership Cost Increase bill! Or, it could also be called a Liberal Wet Dream Stimulus bill!
How did you folks make out with these bills? Are they dead?
