why do not every vessel have a cabinet full of Uzis?
Some scoped .308 rifles ? a box of grenades ?

These sailors need to defend themselves !

I’d prefer a .50 cal. machine gun, myself.

...international law...but otherwise most ports won't let ships with armed sailors come into ports....

I understand Israeli vessels have that and more. Pirates know not to mess with them.

I would certainly want to be armed if I were a sailor traveling through areas rife with piracy. However, I imagine ports have policies against ships being laden with explosives or otherwise equipped with certain weapons.

The ship's owners forbid it and even if they did not, in most ports the crew would be slapped in the local jail and the ship impounded if they were ever found. Including some US ports of course. All US ports for the box of grenades and the UZIs, assuming they were full auto.

A four-man squad of marines would do the trick. They would only be needed for a short nav time.

I think the video of a SAW tearing a boat apart would be worth watching.

The UN would get on the sailors if they poured hot oil onto the invading pirates as they climb up the sides of the ship.

“You poured OIL into the ocean!!!”

Arming the crew with AA-12 automatic shotguns would serve most boarder repelling needs. See the videos here.

Every ship passing near the Somali coast must have trained
armed guards!

My understanding is that most ports of call are hostilely anti-gun with severe penalties for bringing them in to port. Gun-free zones on water.
