I think GW Bush kissed him and held his hand.

I don't like that, either, but kissing and hand-holding don't signify what a deep bow does: subservience.

“I think GW Bush kissed him and held his hand.”

Both gestures of friendship — but an equal friendship.

Obama made an unmistakable gesture of submission to Abdullah, the monarch presiding over Islam’s holy places. To Muslims, that was a significant act.

Now, if Abdullah had reciprocated with a deep bow to Obama, that might have been a different matter. But he didn’t, did he? It was a one-sided gesture of submission by Obama.
