Breaking. Per CBS radio news.. the crew has regained control of the ship throwing three pirates overboard and capturing one.. Will post more.. Breaking

From the AP via the Houston Chronicle as of a few minutes ago:

A U.S. official says the crew of an American-flagged vessel hijacked off the coast of Somalia has retaken control of the ship and has one pirate in custody.

The official said the status of the other pirates is unknown but they were reported to "be in the water." The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

CEO of the ship line speaking...He would not give details, said the welfare of crew is more important than the news media....Did say they Got a call from a crew member..Would not give out names of crew, but have had contact with all families. Are based here in the US, Norfolk VA....have “Mercy cargo”/ food on board. More than 200 vessel travel through that area every year.

Pentagon, Shively, says that we are in control. One of the pirates in custody. Three others in the water....No more detail.

FOX says in first time in 200 years that pirate have had US in custody.....Guess they’ll think again next year.

Father called Fox: his son, Shane, second in command had contacted him telling they were indeed in control and he was safe.

Fox cable reporting the Pentagon confirms the American crew is back in control. One pirate in custody - 3 are in the water.

American crew was unarmed - this ship is carrying food aid to Kenya.

At least 12 of the Americans aboard the Maersk Alabama are members of the Seafarers International Union, spokesman Jordan Biscardo said. The union is trying to get as much information on the situation as it can, he said.

That will sure teach the pirates to look for the union label. WELL DONE Maersk Alabama.
